Titrate Zinc Chloride

Chemists use titrations to determine unknown concentrations.

Zinc chloride (ZnCl2) dissolves completely in water with each molecule of it yielding two chloride ions. Chemists can use silver nitrate and a procedure called titration to measure the number of chloride ions that are in a solution, and thus determine the concentration of the zinc chloride. Silver and chloride ions react in a 1 to 1 ratio; since each molecule of zinc chloride releases two chloride ions, the number of zinc chloride molecules present in the solution will be half the number of silver nitrate molecules required to titrate it.

Instructions

1. Measure 2.55 grams of silver nitrate on your balance and dissolve it in 300 mL of water in your 500 mL beaker. Stir the mixture until the silver nitrate dissolves completely. This will create a 0.05 Molar (M) silver nitrate solution that you will use to titrate the zinc chloride solution.

2. Fill your burette with the silver nitrate solution that you just made.

3. **Handle zinc chloride underneath a fume hood**

Put 30 mL of your unknown zinc chloride solution and 3 drops of indicator solution to your 100 mL beaker. Then place the beaker underneath the burette.

4. Twist the valve on your burette to allow a slow stream of silver nitrate to flow into the zinc chloride solution. Swirl the zinc chloride as you add the silver nitrate and close the valve on the burette as soon as you see a faint peach color appear and stay in the zinc chloride. This color means that all of the chloride ions have been bonded to silver ions and the titration is complete.

5. Multiply the number of liters used to achieve the peach color by the concentration of the silver nitrate to obtain the number of moles used to reach the equivalence point. For example, suppose you used 9 mL (0.009 L) of silver nitrate to reach equivalence.

Moles of silver nitrate = 0.009 L x 0.05 moles/L = 0.00045 moles of silver nitrate

Since silver nitrate reacts with chloride ions in a 1 to 1 ratio, we know that there are 0.00045 moles of chloride in the solution. And since each mole of zinc chloride will release 2 moles of chloride ions when it is dissolved, we know that the 30 mL sample of zinc chloride solution contains 0.000225 moles of zinc chloride, half the amount of chloride ions.

6. Divide the number of moles of zinc chloride present in the 30 mL sample by the volume of the sample to calculate the molarity of the unknown zinc chloride solution. In the example:

Molarity of zinc chloride = 0.000225 moles / 0.3 L = 0.0075 M

The concentration of the unknown zinc chloride solution would be 0.0075 M.

Transfer My Ef Lenses To A Digital Camera

Electronic Focus (EF) lenses will work on digital SLRs without the need for an adapter.

Transferring your EF (Electronic Focus) lens from a film single-lens reflex (SLR) camera to your digital SLR is easily done. Unlike older manual focus lenses, EF lenses can be used on digital cameras without the use of a lens adapter. Depending on the type of digital camera you own, you may see a decrease in the lenses field of view resulting from the smaller sensor. The Canon Digital Rebel has a crop factor of 1.6. A 50mm lens on a digital camera would have a field of view closer to a 80mm lens (as 50mm x 1.6 = 80).

Instructions

1. Hold your digital camera in your right hand with the front of camera pointed up towards the ceiling.

2. Hold your EF lens in your left hand and line up the red dot on the camera's mounting plate with the red dot on the outside of the lens barrel close to the rear of the lens.

3. Place the lens on the camera making sure the red dots line up.

4. Carefully rotate the lens until it locks in place. Turn on your camera, insert an empty memory card and you are ready to start shooting.

Format An Unreadable Sd Card

Format an Unreadable SD Card

When your digital camera begins showing distorted picture images or giving you "Corrupt Data" messages, it may be time to format your memory card. Formatting synchronizes your memory card with your specific camera model, causing both the camera and the card to run faster and more efficiently. Formatting also protects the memory card from potentially becoming more damaged later on.

Instructions

1. Stop taking pictures and turn off your camera at the first sign of corrupted data on the memory card. Symptoms of a corrupted memory card include distorted images being shown in camera playback mode or error messages such as "Memory Card Error" or "Corrupted Memory."

2. Remove the corrupted SD card from your camera and insert it into a memory card reader that is able to read SD cards.

3. Insert the memory card reader into any USB port on your computer. Once the computer recognizes the memory card, go to "My Computer" and then to the "Removable Disk" drive folder that contains the files on your memory card.

4. Copy or move all of the files that you wish to keep from your memory card onto your computer hard drive. This process should take no more than five minutes or so, depending on the number and size of the files that are on your memory card.

5. Safely remove your memory card reader from your computer. Remove your memory card from the reader and insert the card back into the appropriate slot in your camera. Turn your camera on.

6. Press the "Menu" button on the back of your camera. This button is usually below or to the left of the LCD screen. In the menu, find and select the "Setup Menu" or "Settings" menu, depending on the brand of digital camera that you have.

Fix A Tamron Lens

Tamron is one of the oldest third-party lens makers with products on the market. The company makes lenses for most of the major 35mm-style manufacturers, and many professional photographers rely on them. Still, every once in a while, any piece of precision equipment can develop a fault. Here are some tips for troubleshooting and fixing Tamron lenses.

Instructions

1. Try switching to manual focus if you are having a problem with autofocus. If you can focus the lens manually, but it doesn't focus correctly automatically, the problem probably is in the electronics. The easiest fix for this is to clean the electronic contacts on both the rear of the lens and on the camera. If the contacts are dirty, the lens autofocus and aperture can't communicate with the camera's brain.

2. Clean the front and rear lens elements. There may be specks on either of these that can causes blotches or blurring in an image. Use only lens cloth and try to avoid doing this often. In fact, when you clean the front element, attach an ultraviolet or haze filter and don't take it off. This will protect the front element more than a lens cap because it always will be there, and it is cheaper to replace a filter than a lens.

3. Look through the lens toward a light source after you've cleaned it to determine if there is dust inside the lens. This is unlikely in a newer lens unless it has been dropped or banged up. Still, tiny particles can build up on the lens elements inside the lens barrel. Cleaning these elements entails taking the lens apart with a screwdriver carefully. Make sure you lay out all the elements on a soft cloth in the correct order so you can put it back together correctly.

4. Check the aperture leaves while you have the lens apart. They should open and close smoothly. If they don't, check to make sure they are clean and loose. You can lightly lubricate them.

Plans For A Shoe Shine Kit Box

Make sure shoes are free of dust and debris before shining.

Leather shoes that gleam are the finishing touch to a nice suit or business attire. Although shoe shining is not as commonplace as it once was, shoe shine kits are still an important factor in keeping your leather shoes in good shape. Building a shoe shine kit can cost anywhere from $25 to $60 according to Ask Men.com, depending on how much you wish to spend. Researching and choosing quality products is a good way to ensure long-lasting footwear.

Instructions

1. Purchase a wooden shoe shine box if possible. They hold all shoe shine supplies and serve as a footrest. You can also construct a box yourself if you have the skills. If you do not have the time to make a box or insufficient funds to purchase a wooden box, use a bag or other box that is applicable.

2. Purchase or borrow a quality horsehair shoe shine brush. Websites like Shoe Care Supplies feature many shoe shine brush options for purchasing. Kiwi is a popular brand that makes shoe shine brushes.

3. Compile a horsehair polish applicator, latex gloves and polishing clothes. Polish applicators are used to apply the polish before brushing the shoe with the horsehair brush. Look for them in retail stores or on sites like the aforementioned Shoe Care Supplies or The Shoe Shine Kit. You can find latex gloves at drug and retail stores. Polish clothes are specifically made for shoe shining or you can use old T-shirts or other rags.

4. Decide on a polish. Wax polishes make shoes shine however they create a sealant that can ultimately damage your shoes. Creme polishes may soak into the leather but allow shoes more breathing room. Shoes will last longer but will not shine as brightly.

5. Purchase edging dressing if desired. They are not essential to a shoe shine kit however they add a finishing touch to a pair of polished shoes. Use it on the edges of the leather for best results.

Compare Slim Easy Shoot Cameras

A slim, easy-to-use camera comes in handy when traveling.

Technology has a way of leveling out over time. When digital photography first became marketable in the early 1990s, cameras were clunky and expensive by 2011 standards. Newer compact point-and-shoot cameras are slim and easy to use, though some are slimmer and easier than others. The low end of the digital camera market is packed with point-and-shoot options, so picking the right camera takes a bit of careful comparison.

Instructions

1. Compare the megapixels of a few similarly priced cameras. On larger cameras with big sensors -- like in a digital single lens reflex camera, for example -- the number of megapixels isn't as important as on a point-and-shoot camera. But since point-and-shoot cameras all have virtually the same sensor format, the amount of pixels comes into play. When you take pictures on a compact camera with a 7-megapixel sensor, you should be able to blow up your images (in print) to about 20 by 15 inches without distortion. A 14-megapixel camera creates poster-sized prints without distortion, since twice as many pixels are packed into the same area.

2. Compare the shutter speeds of the cameras and aperture values of their lenses. Even if you want an easy-to-use camera and plan to shoot only on "Auto" mode, a fast shutter speed and a good lens will save you a lot of aggravation, especially when shooting indoors at a birthday party or outside in poor light. Your compact camera will manage the shutter speed for you, but cameras with faster shutters -- in the 1/2000 or 1/4000 of a second range -- will respond more quickly. Likewise, cameras with a wider aperture will take pictures more quickly in low light. Aperture is measure in an "f/" value, and the lower the number, such as "f/3.3" or "f/2.8," the wider the aperture. This allows more light to reach the sensor, and allows the camera to use a faster shutter. For indoor photos without a flash, look for a quick shutter and wide aperture.

3. Compare the HD capabilities of the movie mode. Most entry-level point-and-shoot cameras have at least a 720p video recording mode; 1080p is better, but tends to come with a premium price tag.

4. Compare styles. Point-and-shoot cameras are half substance, half style. Many companies make compact cameras in a dozen or so vibrant colors, and to many people the color of the camera matters as much as the guts. However, consider the style only after you've evaluated other aspects first, since having a beautiful fuchsia camera, for example, won't impress anyone if you can't take a clear picture with it.

Activate A Used Cell Phone

Cell phones are expensive to replace or upgrade. If you have ever lost or broken one, you know how much this costs, especially if there was no insurance coverage. Upgrades of these phones are also hard on the wallet and pocketbook. No matter whether it is a case of replacement or upgrade when you are in need of a new phone, you should purchase a used cell phone and activate it to use with your current provider.

Instructions

1. Contact your service provider first to make sure you can activate a used cell phone through them. Some companies don't do this, so it's important that you get in touch with them.

2. Give the provider the used phone's Electronic Serial Number (ESN) to see if it is compatible with the provider's service. You can locate the ESN number by removing the battery. The number is on the phone underneath the battery, usually an 11 digit number. If the phone has a different service provider's name and logo on it, it is a locked phone and cannot be used with any other provider other than the one on the phone.

3. Try switching out the SIM card once you have the okay from your service provider. A SIM card is a small circut board within your cell phone that has all your personal information on it and is linked with your service provider. Put the card from your old phone into your newly acquired phone. If that works, you're set. If not, move on to the next step.

4. Call your cell phone company on a land line or different cell phone. Tell them you would like to activate a new phone and start an account or to replace your old phone. They will ask you some security questions and for the make, model, serial number and ESN, so have these handy. They will tell you what to do from there and walk you through it.

What Is A Digital Camcorder Optical Sensor

Digital camcorders include optical sensors to interpret light.

Digital camcorders include optical sensors (CCDs) in order to convert light into electronic data. The type and size of the optical sensor on your camera will affect the quality and size of your video images.

Function

Images on your camcorder are collected in the form of light rays. Optical sensors detect the types, colors and strength of those light rays and translate them into data that your camcorder interprets as digital images.

Types

The primary types of digital sensors are chemical sensors, which use fiber-optic technology to examine the florescence of light entering the camera, and temperature sensors, which measure the intensity of light in terms of temperatures that correspond to colors.

Size

When purchasing a digital camcorder, size (usually measured in inches) is the moist important consideration when it comes to optical sensors. The larger the optical sensor, the more light the sensor collects to use in your images, giving your video more depth of color.

Audiovox Portable Dvd Player D1680 Specs

The DV1680 is a portable DVD player -- and audio CD player -- that Audiovox Corp. released in 2002. The DV1680 features a color screen measuring just under 7 inches, and weighs a little more than 2 lb., without its battery. While the device is discontinued, you can still purchase the DV1680 on the secondhand market as of 2011.

Design Specs

Just like a laptop computer, the Audiovox DV1680 has a clamshell form factor, which means its top folds down when the device is not in use. With its top in the closed position, the DV1680 has dimensions of 6.62 inches wide, 6.77 inches deep and 1.38 inches high. The portable DVD player has a silver enclosure color and a total approximate weight of 2.2 lb., excluding its battery pack.

Screen Specs

The screen of the Audiovox DV1680 portable DVD player relies on an active-matrix variety of liquid-crystal display (LCD) technology known as thin-film transistor (TFT). Unlike a standard LCD screen, a TFT screen designates individual transistors to each of its on-screen pixels, or tiny squares of illumination. Using TFT technology, the Audiovox DV1680's screen can provide a maximum resolution of 89,856 pixels. The more pixels a screen can display, the greater level of detail it can provide. The DV1680's screen has a size of 6.8 inches, as measured along the screen's diagonal, and an aspect ratio 4 to 3. Aspect ratio refers to the relationship between a screen's width and a screen's height.

Wire A Volume Pot On A Gibson Georgia 19rvt Amp

The Falcon GA-19RVT is a guitar amplifier manufactured by Gibson, a leading maker of guitar amplifiers, speakers, pedals and PA systems. The volume control on the Gibson amplifier is actually an electronic device known as a potentiometer, or "pot" for short. A potentiometer is a rotary style resistor that has three terminals and is commonly used as a volume control. Typical potentiometers have three terminals -- the first (on the far left) is ground; the center is the wiper and the third terminal is the input.

Instructions

1. Unplug the amplifier from the wall.

2. Pull all of the knobs off the front controls of the Gibson amplifier.

3. Use a screwdriver to remove the case screws and pull the case off the front of the amplifier.

4. Use an adjustable wrench to remove the metal nut holding the volume potentiometer in place. Snip the wire connections off the old pot's leads with wire strippers. Take the old pot out and slip a new one into place. Mount it in place by replacing the retaining nut.

5. Heat up the soldering iron and solder the cords to their corresponding leads on the new potentiometer.

6. Replace the case to the amplifier along with the retaining screws. Push all knobs back onto the amplifier. Plug the amplifier in and test it out.

Computer Camera Used As A Security Camera

Use a webcam as a security camera.

Instead of purchasing an expensive security system, computer owners with a simple webcam can turn it into a motion detecting security camera. The process is simple and free as long as you already have the webcam.

Function

Through the software application Dorgem, images are captured through a webcam by using motion detection. Dorgem is a freeware application that runs on all Windows-based computers.

Features

Through Dorgem settings, you can test and set up your camera. Select a save location, enable motion detection and choose how frequently you want to take a picture. Plug in your webcam and select it from the drop-down menu.

Benefits

The motion detection in the software allows you to save hard drive space by only taking pictures when someone or something goes by the camera. Additionally, regular security systems can cost over $100.

Types

Dorgem is compatible with almost any type of web camera. If you have multiple webcams, you can run multiple versions of the software to capture different angles near your computer.

Considerations

Because it is connected through a computer, the vision is limited. Webcams do not have as good of quality as a standard camera, but screenshots can often get bigger than 600 by 800 resolution.

Clean A Mini Dv Camera

When your mini DV camera images become fuzzy or your camera begins to malfunction, you need to clean the heads of the camera. Many experts also recommend cleaning your camera after fifty hours of recording even if your picture looks fine. Using mini DV cleaning tapes can help you quickly straighten out the images you see on the camera and they're usually included with your camera purchase.

Instructions

1. Insert the cleaning tape into your mini DV camera. Make sure your cleaning tape is the same brand as your camera. Most cleaning cassette tapes come with your camera purchase or you can purchase them at any electronics store.

2. Press the "Play" button and play the tape for ten seconds.

3. Stop the tape. Remove it from the camera and store it in a familiar place for your next cleaning.

4. Check that your camera is working properly. Insert a mini DV cassette you've already recorded and watch the video playback carefully for any signs of malfunction.

5. Repeat the steps above once more if you see any video problems. Consider getting your camera serviced if the cleaning tape doesn't solve your issue.

Photograph Still Life

Pictures don't need action to be interesting. When the weather is bad and you find yourself without any of your usual subjects to take pictures of, try taking some still life pictures. Still life can be any inanimate object we commonly use or see. The subject matter is virtually unlimited.

Instructions

1. Use a tripod. You'll need to frequently adjust and move your subjects to get the best pictures. With a tripod, you can leave your camera set up and focused while you set up your subjects. Also, a tripod is essential to avoid the camera shake that can be troublesome in macro photography.

2. Turn on your cameras macro setting if the camera will be closer than two feet to your subject. Most still life pictures are most effective when zoomed in tightly on subjects. You can use your optical zoom a little, but it's best to physically move the camera closer as well.

3. Control the lighting in still life pictures. Place objects by a window in the late afternoon when low, warm light is shining through it. Use curtains and shades to experiment with lighting and shade effects on your subjects. Streaks of light and shadows add interest to otherwise boring subjects.

4. Try artificial light from a lamp if daylight is not giving you the beams of light and shadows you need in your pictures. For this, use a lamp that can angle toward your subject. You must also use your camera's manual white balance to keep colors true.

5. Provide a white background for your still life subjects. A white background allows the simplicity of your subject to be the star of the picture. A white sheet or paper works well for this purpose.

When you purchase a new television, the remote that comes with the TV will already be programmed to that particular set. There may come a time, however, when you have to purchase a replacement remote control for a TV set. 'Candid Camera'

"Candid Camera" is credited as he longest-running reality-based program in television history. The show specialized in playing practical jokes on unknowing people and catching them on film. Known mostly for its run hosted by its creator, Allen Funt, the show aired for 38 years in different stints on all three major networks.

Time Frame

The show debuted on ABC radio under the title "Candid Microphone" in 1947 before moving to TV the next year and then to NBC in 1949. It mostly ran on CBS or in syndication after that, though its last run from 2001-04 was on PAX TV.

Function

The show involved putting unsuspecting people in strange situations involving things like moving inanimate objects, insane vendors and other practical jokes. It was most famous for revealing the joke at the end with the words, "Smile, you're on 'Candid Camera.' "

Hosts

Allen Funt is the most well-known host of the show, but other hosts and co-hosts included Allen's son Peter, Dorothy Collins, Dom DeLuise, Eva LaRue, Suzanne Somers and Dina Eastwood, wife of Clint Eastwood, and Jo Ann Pflug.

Adult-Oriented Shows

In the 1970s, Funt created a spinoff series for HBO called "Candid Candid Camera." These episodes were restricted to premium and adult-oriented stations because most of the practical jokes involved nudity.

Copying the Legacy

Many other TV shows have used "Candid Camera's" format, especially in the reality TV boom of the 21st century. Examples include "Punk'd," "Scare Tactics," "Totally Hidden Video" and "The Jamie Kennedy Experiment."

Buy A Blackberry Case

Like any other wildly popular hardware device, Blackberry has inspired an impressive array of accessories, software and other secondary products. Your Blackberry comes with a simple but useful belt clip case, but you don't need to be limited to simple and useful when you can choose sporty, colorful, professional or highly personalized. Cases and belt clips are available from a wide selection of manufacturers and vendors.

Instructions

Consider Your Personal Needs Before You Buy a Blackberry Case

1. Begin by making sure you know your exact Blackberry model number. Always type in the model number when searching or shopping for accessories on any vendor's website, and verify the compatibility of the case with your Blackberry model before you buy.

2. Choose the type of case that will best fit your personal lifestyle. Security may demand that you keep your Blackberry tethered to you in some way, but you probably won't want a belt-clip case if you never wear a belt. Cases also come in flip-case styles and leather-book styles.

3. Consider the weight that your case will add to the overall weight of your device. You may want to use a stylish leather book case at work but revert to your trusty belt-clip case when you are walking the dog, for example.

Buy a Blackberry Case

4. Visit Blackberrystuff.com or BlackberrySource.com (see Resources below). Type in your Blackberry model number to search for the ideal officially licensed exterior case for your Blackberry model and personal usage plans.

5. Check out rubberized "skins" cases and screen protectors to keep your Blackberry device scratch-free whether it is inside or outside its exterior case. These accessories are relatively inexpensive and available on the same websites where you will shop for your exterior case and other accessories.

6. Compare prices and shipping costs and check customer reviews at Amazon.com before you make a final purchase. If you are planning to buy another accessory for your Blackberry, you may want to combine your purchases to qualify for free shipping.

Remove A Ford Excursion Radio

If you want to upgrade the sound system in your Ford Excursion, replacing the factory radio is one of the best ways to start. Prior to adding a new radio, you'll need to remove the factory radio from your Excursion. This is one of the simplest parts of the radio replacement project, and requires only a few basic tools.

Instructions

1. Remove any media, like tapes or CDs, from the existing factory radio. When the radio is removed there won't be any power to the radio, and the eject mechanisms will not work.

2. Turn off the vehicle and any accessory power.

3. Place your car into Park, and set the parking brake so there is no danger of the vehicle moving while you work on it.

4. Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery post with an appropriately sized or adjustable wrench. Turn the nut to the left to loosen, then slide the clamp on the cable off the battery post when it is loose.

5. Insert a set of DIN tools into the pair of holes on the outer edges of the car radio. Push in firmly until you feel a click.

6. Spread the DIN tools to release the catches holding the radio in place, then pull the radio firmly toward you until it clears the dash.

7. Unplug the factory wiring harness (a white plug) from the back of the radio by pulling firmly on it.

8. Unplug the antenna cable (a silver plug attached to a black cable) from the back of the radio.

9. Remove the radio from the vehicle.

Use Text Messaging Appropriately

Text messaging can be a great way for people to keep in touch with everyone in their lives. It can also rack up many annoyance points. Many teens hang onto their cell phones as if they are attached at the hip, answering messages constantly. Some adults text message during meetings and in the car without considering how rude and annoying--not to mention dangerous--text messaging really is. There are some places and times where text messaging is completely inappropriate.

Instructions

1. When away from home, never text during class, during meetings, school functions or conferences. Never text during church or funerals. Never text during meals or while engaged in conversation with anyone. Never text while at the movies. Quite simply, it's rude. It's much fairer to give your full attention to any event or person.

2. When at home, never text during family dinner, movie or game time. Never text during family discussions or important family functions. And never text during a conversation, even if it's with your little sister. Give your full attention to your family when you're with them.

3. Never, ever text while driving. Your eyes cannot be on the road and all the many drivers around you if you're looking at your phone. Safety while driving is paramount. Your text messages will be saved on your phone. It doesn't need to be answered while you're operating a car.

4. Remember that very few things in life cannot wait. Every activity shouldn’t be interrupted to read or respond to a text message.

5. Excuse yourself politely and leave the room if you absolutely have to read or answer a message. Exercising good manners is never a mistake.

Improve Nextel Reception In A Building

Spotty reception on your Nextel phone can be frustrating, and is particularly common in certain types of buildings that are constructed out of dense materials. If you don't want to switch carriers, try some troubleshooting methods to boost the signal. If these fail, there are external devices you can connect to your phone.

Instructions

1. Use your battery charger to fully charge the battery on your phone. It takes energy to draw a cellular signal and the more power in your battery, the stronger the signal will be.

2. Check the external antenna on your phone. If it is retractable, extend it so that it is fully open.

3. Walk to different areas in the building to see if the signal is stronger in other areas. If none of these tips have worked, proceed to the next step.

4. Purchase a signal booster or external antenna from your local Nextel retailer.

5. Connect the cable at the end of the booster or antenna to the port on your phone. These devices can greatly increase signal strength.

Print Photos From A Memory Card Only

Some photo printers have built-in card readers.

Digital photographers do not need computers to perform print jobs anymore. Some printers have built-in memory card readers that allow users to print digital photographs by inserting the card directly into the face of the printer. Photo printers with built-in card readers are available to consumers for in-home use, and many photo printing service retailers have self-service kiosks with built-in card readers at store locations.

Instructions

1. Connect a printer that has a built-in card reader to an electrical power outlet, and turn it on. HP, Epson, Sony and Kodak manufacture consumer grade photo printers with card readers. These printers are sometimes called "photo only" printers.

2. Load photo quality paper into the printer's paper tray. Avoid overloading the tray by consulting the printer's owner manual or user guide for specific page load guidelines about your machine.

3. Insert the memory card in the memory card slot that fits the size of your card. The slots correspond with some of the most popular card types such as Compact Flash, Secure Digital, Multi-Media, XD Picture Card, Memory Stick and Smart Media.

4. Select the print options that you desire on the printer's display. Most photo printers with built-in card readers have basic options such as the number of prints on a page, the dimensions of each print and the number of copies. Consult the printer's user guide or owner manual for print options your machine offers.

5. Select the "Print," "Confirm" or "Start" command to process the print command, and begin printing your photos.

Retail Store

6. Go to a retail store with photo printing kiosks. These machines function like automatic teller machines or ATM machines with similar input and output technology. Retailers such as Target, Wal-mart, Walgreens and CVS have self-service photo kiosks with card readers.Tap the touch-screen monitor on the kiosk to bring the machine out of sleep mode.

7. Enter the start commands on the touch-screen menu according to the machine's instructions on the screen. This may include things like setting the appropriate language for the rest of the steps.

8. Follow the directions on the screen to set the media type to "Memory Card."

9. Insert the memory card in the memory card slot on that kiosk that fits the size of your card. The machine will start reading the card and begin processing previews of the images on the touch-screen display.

The History And Natural Aging Of Kodak Ektachrome Film

Kodak introduced Ektachrome film in 1959 and it was the fastest color film on the market. As of October 2010, Ektachrome is still available and film photographers use the film to take slides with a fine grain.

History

Ektachrome was one of the best-selling slide films made by Kodak. The film has three emulsion layers: yellow, cyan and magenta. As time goes by and the slides are exposed to light from natural exposure or from projectors, the colors shift and the layers degrade.

Use

This film is used by photographers who want to project their images on a screen. Prints can be made from the slides. The film is only manufactured for 35 mm film cameras. Film speeds are measured by ISO. As of October 2010, Ektachrome is available at 100 and 200 ISO. Higher film speeds have lower grain density, but react faster to light when exposed.

Considerations

When shooting with Ektachrome, photographers can ask the lab who develops the film to make a CD of the frames, so that over the years, viewers can have digital copies of the slides that will not fade. Keeping the slides in the cases or boxes in closets or drawers will slow the aging of the film.

Transfer An 8mm To Digital

Transfer old 8mm film to digital.

Up until about 1964, 8mm was the choice for recording home movies. After that, 8mm was supplanted by Super 8mm as the film for home-movie makers. The 8mm movie film was manufactured by simply splitting a strip of 16mm film and repackaging it. Transferring an 8mm film to digital requires the use of an 8mm projector. You can still sometimes find these in secondhand shops, swap sales and online options. Many Super 8mm projectors also double as 8mm projectors.

Instructions

1. Set up the 8mm projector in a room that allows you to close off all the outside light. An interior room without windows is even better. The darker the room is, the better the 8mm will show up when projected.

2. Set up a projection screen across from the 8mm projector. For the optimum projection, the screen should be at least three to five feet from the 8mm projector. If you do not have a screen, fasten a piece of white poster board to the wall and secure it with tape or thumbtacks.

3. Plug in the projector. Attach the 8mm reel to the arm at the front of the projector. Turn the projector on. Feed the end of the 8mm film into the feed slot at the top of the projector. After the film runs through the projector, it will exit beneath the take up reel. Thread the film onto the takeup reel.

4. Focus the projector by turning the focus ring around the projector lens until the image is bright and clear.

5. Set up your DV (digital video) camera next to the 8mm projector so that it is pointing at the projected image. Zoom the camera all the way into the image so that it fills up the screen in the viewfinder. Turn the digital camera to manual focus and focus the image in the viewfinder.

6. Insert a new DV tape into the camera.

7. Turn off the lights in the room. Press record on the digital camera. Turn on the projector. Film the image with the digital camera. Press stop on the digital camera when finished.

Windows 7 will store the files in a picture folder in the Pictures Library by default.

Instructions

1. Turn off the camera.

2. Connect the cable to your camera's terminal port.

3. Connect the cable to the USB port on your computer.

4. Power on the camera.

5. Select from the options displayed on the computer screen. For example, some software may include a message asking to download all photos, or only specific photos. The images will copy to a folder in the Windows Pictures Library.

6. Turn off the camera. Disconnect the cable from the camera and from the computer. Do not pull on the cord.

Print Dvd Labels With An Inkjet Printer

Printing labels, whether they are for a DVD or a CD, with an inkjet printer is fairly simple, and while it will require some specialized software, odds are that you already have it installed on your computer. The great thing about modern computing is that everyone in the industry assumes that people are creating media in their homes, so you have a lot of options. While it is important to follow copyright laws, it is perfectly legal to create a backup of a CD or DVD you already own.

Instructions

1. Acquire the physical labels. You can find printable labels in any store selling printer paper. A number of companies manufacture and distribute blank DVD and CD labels that are designed to be used with an inkjet printer. You will also need publishing software to design and print your labels.

2. Design your label with the publishing software. The exact steps will vary depending on how you want your label to appear and the software you are using. If you are making a copy of a DVD, it may be difficult to find the exact art appearing on the original. You may have to go to a pirate Web site to find the artwork. Try the newsgroups as well.

3. If you are designing an original DVD label, then you will have a number of options. If you just want text, create text areas and fill them in with the desired information. If you are using pictures, fit and size them. Take your time and make your DVD label look great.

4. Put the blank DVD labels into the inkjet printer's paper feed.

5. Click "Print." Your software will probably ask you about your blank DVD labels. Input the product information to get a properly lined up label. Your labels should now print on your inkjet.

6. Carefully peel the new label off of the backing and apply it to the DVD. Some products, such as Mediaface, provide a device to help you line your labels up perfectly. Because your DVD labels have adhesive backing, you only get one shot to apply it, so be careful and take your time.

7. Firmly press the label to the DVD. Examine it to be certain that you have lined it up properly. If it is not lined up and paper hangs over the edge, you could damage your DVD player.

My Digital Converter Box Won'T Receive A Signal

Digital converter boxes are devices used by cable TV providers to provide customers with channels in the digital format. Digital cable boxes also offer many other useful features like onscreen digital channel guides and digital music stations. Your cable provider will likely have a technical support department you can contact in the event that you experience a technical problem with your digital cable service, but it is well worth your while to arm yourself with the knowledge and skills needed to troubleshoot problems on your own so that you can resolve them without having to consult any outside help.

Instructions

1. Tune your TV to the video and audio input into which your digital converter box is connected. This step will vary depending on how you have your converter box connected to the TV; if you use a coaxial cable to connect the box to the TV's coaxial input, the TV should be tuned to channel 3 or 4. If you use RCA, component, HDMI or any other type of audio video connection cable or cables, use the TV's input selection control, a button usually labeled "input," "source," "TV/video" or the like. Press the button repeatedly until the TV displays the input you are using to connect the box and again check for picture.

2. Reset the cable box by unplugging its power cord for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in. Allow the converter box to reboot completely before attempting to power it on again and checking for picture.

3. Contact your cable TV provider's technical support department. If you are located in a cable outage area, all the troubleshooting in the world will not restore your picture until the outage is resolved. By contacting your provider you can determine whether or not you are being affected by a service outage or degradation. Even if not, your provider can walk you through more advanced troubleshooting to restore picture to your converter box.

Install A Nanny Cam

Although there are still some legal questions to be answered, the use of so-called nanny cams is increasing. These tiny hidden cameras are used to monitor what happens in your home when your children are left in the custody of someone you really don't know or trust. Installation is easy, provided you have the right equipment. Read on to learn install a nanny cam.

Instructions

1. Consider going wireless. Wireless nanny cams or pinhole spy cameras can be placed anywhere in the house within range of a receiver attached to a computer, digital video recorder or video tape recorder. Some claim to have a range of up to 500 feet, but 300 feet tends to be the norm.

2. Choose a wireless camera. Wireless cams are available disguised as all sorts of items you would find around your house, ranging from wall clocks to planters and they can be placed almost anywhere.

3. Set up your cameras where they can have a decent view of the room. Most come with wireless transmitters that send a signal back to your recording device, which can be hidden in a closet or basement. Most transmitters are USB devices that attach to USB ports on the rear of the camera although a few of the more expensive cams have built-in transmitters.

4. Consider purchasing a DVR or using a computer's hard drive rather than using a continuous-loop video tape recorder. Tapes can jam. On the plus side, the security tape can be played back using any VHS machine, where you can only use the computer or DVR to play back their recordings.

5. Install your device. Installing a wireless recording device is fairly easy. The receivers in these devices will automatically lock on to any camera within range and begin recording.

6. Be prepared to review endless hours of recordings, especially with nanny cam systems that are motion activated.

7. Use caution when placing nanny cams throughout the house. Keep them out of bathrooms and other areas that could be considered an invasion of privacy. This has become a big legal issue when nanny cam recordings have been used as evidence in abuse cases.
