10 Megapixel Vs 8

The resolution of a picture taken with a digital camera is typically represented by its megapixels. Unlike traditional photos, digital pictures are made up of thousands of tiny dots called pixels. The megapixel of a camera represents how many millions of pixels are in a single photograph taken by that camera. Typically the more pixels you have, the higher the resolution of your photograph. Both 8 and 10 megapixel cameras are considered fairly high megapixel cameras. There are subtle differences between 8 and 10 megapixel cameras however that might make a difference to you and your picture taking.

Size

An 8-megapixel picture is 3264 x 2448 pixels when taken at its full resolution. A 10-megapixel picture is 3872 x 2592 pixels when taken at its full resolution.

Effects

At 300 ppi (pixels per inch), which is the resolution typically required for magazines and print media, you can print an 8-megapixel picture 10.88-inches by 8.16-inches. You can print a 10-megapixel picture 12.91" x 8.64" at its highest resolution.

Indentification

A digital camera will typically have its megapixel printed on the camera body. Most digital cameras will also allow you to adjust the camera's megapixel within the menu. If you purchase a 10-megapixel camera, you can often adjust the cameras settings to take pictures at an 8-megapixel resolution if you'd like.

Considerations

In addition to allowing you to print larger photographs, a higher resolution picture can allow you to crop pictures more heavily and still have a high resolution photograph you can print out. Since digital pictures are made up of thousands of tiny dots, cropping a lower resolution picture may spread those dots too thin, allowing you in some cases tp physically see the individual dots in your picture. Typically cropping portions of a 10-megapixel picture will leave a much better-looking photo than cropping the same picture taken at an 8-megapixel resolution.

Memory

The larger the megapixel of your camera, the more room your pictures will take up on your memory card. An 8-megapixel camera will be able to hold 800 pictures on a 2GB memory card, a 10-megapixel camera however will only be able to store 650 pictures on the same memory card.

What Are The Disadvantages Of Chat Rooms

Internet chat rooms are websites where users can freely type to communicate with one another in real time. Chat rooms can be a fun way to communicate with friends and those with similar interests, but they can also be one of the most dangerous places to go on the Internet, especially for children.

Predators

Chat rooms often allow visitors to choose a user name that is not associated with any real information about the person using it. The anonymity can make it can be difficult to know whether other chatters are being truthful and makes chat rooms a potential avenue for child predators to gain access to children. For instance, a predator could pose as a teenager and try to learn personal information about other teens. Over time, if the children become familiar with the predator, they may begin to trust him, which may allow the predator to learn intimate details about the children or even trick them into meeting. According to CNN, "an increasing number of predatory pedophiles have used chat rooms to 'groom' youngsters for sexual abuse."

Computer Attacks

Chat rooms are a way for people to spread harmful data or malware. According to the the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team, chat room users may try to convince you to run a program or click on a link that will send a malicious piece of software to your computer. While you may be wary of malware sent via email from unknown sources, chat room users have the advantage of being able to communicate with you directly to gain your confidence. If you feel comfortable with another user, it can be easy for the user to get you to click on something that may harm your computer. The programs used to facilitate online chatting may not be designed for security, which may make your computer easier for others to attack.

Unfiltered Content

Another disadvantage of chat rooms is that content that appears in the chat may not be censored or filtered in any way. Malicious users can expose others to bad language and adult images or references. Some Internet users may attempt to get others to look at horrific or shocking images or to antagonize others by making comments that invoke anger or create arguments.

Tips On Projection Tv Care & Cleaning

Projection TVs provide an enormous and luminous experience for enjoying movies and television programs at home. The sets require a little regular maintenance and care to provide years of service.

Weekly Cleaning

Dust the projection TV screen at least once a week as necessary to remove dust and dirt. Static electricity on the screen will attract a lot of dust. Use a clean, lint-free cloth and a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol to wipe down the screen. Spray the alcohol on the cloth, never on the screen.

Remove rings, watches and bracelets to prevent accidentally scratching the delicate projection material on the screen.

TV Placement

Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause the reflective material on the back of your screen to fade or become clouded, so be sure to not set it in a place in the room that receives a lot of direct sunlight. Also, it is virtually impossible to enjoy a good picture on a projection TV in a brightly lighted room.

Cleaning the Color Guns

If your picture becomes blurry or faded, a bit of internal cleaning might fix the problem. Unplug the set from the power and remove the screws that hold the TV backing in place. Look for the three color guns--red, blue and green--shaped like cylinders inside the cabinet. Also find the reflective mirror that bounces light from the color guns to your screen. Clean the three guns and the mirror using a camera lens cleaning solution available at photography stores.

How Digital Tv Converters Work

How Digital TV Converters Work

Converting Digital Signals

A digital TV converter helps convert digital signals being transmitted over the air into a signal that an older, analog TV can read.

How It Works

Local network TV stations soon will be required to transmit their signals in a digital format, under a government law meant to unclog the airwaves from all the frequencies from analog signals. The digital signal is of a shorter frequency, meaning it's available in a more localized region. For cable and satellite subscribers, this isn't a problem.

The problem is posed, though, for owners of older television sets that are still getting channels via an antenna.

The digital signal transmitted from local TV stations is picked up by an antenna, but if there isn't anything to convert the signal--like a digital converter box--the TV picture will be fuzzy. Once the converter is connected to the antenna and TV, viewers should be able to see their regular local channels in a digital picture.

Connect the Digital TV Converter

If you have an antenna, connect the coaxial cable running from the antenna to the antenna line-in or line-in port on the digital converter box. Next, connect the TV to the line-out port on the digital converter box. Turn the TV on, turn the digital converter on and you will have digital channels with your old TV.

What If I Want to Hook Up My VCR So I Can Still Record My Favorite Shows?

Connect the digital converter box to the antenna, but use a coaxial cable to connect the line-out port of the digital converter box to the antenna in port on the VCR. Then connect the line-out port on the VCR--as you normally would--to your television. You will be able to change channels and record programming with your VCR like normal.

Is There An App For Android That Will Let Your Phone Give Off Wifi

Android phones, like most devices with modern wireless technology, are able to switch their wireless hardware from the client mode to an ad-hoc or full on access point. This allows for the creation of the mobile hot spot, a wireless network that will share the phones data connection over Wi-Fi.

Carrier Applications

Most wireless carriers offer an application that allows for wireless tethering with the device. AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and many other major U.S. and worldwide carriers offer this option. While the application is usually free, the service itself costs upwards of $30 USD per month. Although this is the best option for most users, many advanced users choose to root their Android phone and utilize a third-party application for tethering. These applications are located in the Google Market application and are usually available for free or a minimal charge.

Rooting

Many carriers make rooting a violation of a user's contract, though some wireless providers are a little less specific. Android phones come with the interface running under a restricted user account instead of the root, or Administrator, account. This is for security and user safety because an inexperienced user can quickly destroy the phone, if he is not careful, while running as the root user. The process of rooting requires circumventing the phone's security, a process different for each phone model, and acquiring root access. Once enabled, a user is able to install dozens of applications with additional features, including wireless hot spot applications. Two applications that can be used to generate a wireless hot spot for rooted Android users.

Barnacle Wi-Fi Tether

Barnacle Wi-Fi Tether provides a lot features for phones with a 3G or 4G data connection. As long as your device is listed as supported, the application can produce a Wi-Fi connection and provide WEP wireless encryption for the access point. Barnacle Wi-Fi Tether provides a client list for booting unwanted connections from your device and allows you to choose the channel to run your wireless network on, allowing you to change your network frequency in signal heavy areas with a lot of wireless congestion. The application is free at the the time of publication.

Wireless Tether for Root Users

Wireless Tether for Root Users provides much of the same functionality as Barnacle Wi-Fi Tether and is the preferred application for many rooted Android users. Many users that have trouble with Barnacle Wi-Fi Tether find that Wireless Tether for Root Users functions on their phone instead. In addition to the features listed in previous applications, Wireless Tether provides WPA encryption, the latest wireless security standard, and allows for MAC address filtering, letting you screen devices without having to constantly monitor your phone. The application is free at the time of publication.

Warnings

Many wireless carriers consider the use of wireless tethering applications a breach of customer contracts. In addition, many wireless carriers even consider rooting your Android phone a violation of your terms of service. Check with your wireless carrier before performing the rooting process on your Android phone and again before utilizing any third-party tethering applications. Note that even if your carrier forbids wireless tethering, some still allow USB tethering, another option entirely. With USB tethering you can utilize the phone's connection as long as you can attach the device to your computer with a USB cable.

Troubleshoot The Picture Ratio On An Lg Tv

When TVs first appeared, they had an picture ratio of 4:3, which matched that of most movie screens at the time. Terrified of losing their business, movie studios struck back with "widescreen" films using 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 ratios. When widescreen TVs started appearing, they emulated those same ratios, but many TV shows (and some movies) were still in 4:3---and we were eventually left with a bit of a mess. Canny manufacturers, including LG, have solved the problem by allowing you to adjust the picture ratio on the TV to fit the program you're watching. If it's not set properly, however, your image will look distorted or cut off. A quick bit of troubleshooting can fix the problem easily.

Instructions

1. Press the "Menu" button on the remote and scroll down to the "Option" title (it should be second from the bottom ). Then select "Aspect Ratio." You should see a list of ratio options. You simply need to pick the one which fits the show you're watching.

2. Choose the 4:3 ratio for older movies and TV programs. You should see a pair of bars on the left and right side of the screen. (That's okay: the bars keep the program in the same proportion in which it was filmed.)

3. Select the 16:9 ratio for widescreen movies and for more recent shows to match their longer width. For some movies, you may see black bars and the top and bottom of the screen. Again, that allows the movie to be shown in the manner it was filmed.

4. Pick "Set By Program" to automatically switch the LG TV between 4:3 and 16:9 to match whatever show is on at the time.

5. Select "Horizon" to horizontally expand the image onscreen. It will fill the whole screen---eliminating the black bars to the left and the right---but it may look distorted.

6. Use the "Zoom 1" option to zoom the image forward. That will eliminate the black bars at the top or the bottom of the screen, though you will cut off the edges of the image.

7. Pick the "Zoom 2" button to select a midway point between "Horizon" and "Zoom 1." The picture is stretched, but not as much as with "Horizon," and fills the screen, but doesn't cut off as much as "Zoom 1."

8. Use the "Cinema Zoom" button to enlarge the picture to fit the screen. This option allows you to adjust the proportion to your liking, rather than use the set proportions of the other aspect options.

9. Exit the menu when you are done and watch your programming normally.

Record Tv Programs From A New Digital Tv

VCRs and DVD recorders can still be used to record programs from digital TV.

Since the transition to digital TV, over-the-air local TV broadcasts on an analog TV can only be received when the TV has been hooked up to an ATSC converter box (more commonly referred to as a digital converter box). Digital TVs do not need to be hooked up to a converter box because they are already equipped with an internal digital (ATSC) tuner. However if you're using a digital TV and you want to record local over-the-air television programs, the VCR or DVD recorder recording device you're using must also have a digital tuner.

Instructions

Preparation

1. Review the specifications for the recording device you plan to use. These specifications should be listed in the owner's manual. Check to see what type of internal tuner the device is equipped with.

2. Contact the device manufacturer's customer service department if you can't find your owner's manual. Ask the customer service representative if the VCR or DVD recorder model you have is equipped with a digital or analog tuner.

3. Follow the steps in the "Connect Digital Converter Box and VCR or DVD Recorder to TV" section if the recording device is equipped with an internal analog (NTSC) tuner. Convert An 8mm Tape To Digital

Converting old 8mm video footage to digital video helps safeguard from loss.

Camcorders or tape decks that play 8mm tapes are becoming scarce. While most video tapes are estimated to last up to 30 years, no one knows for sure how long they’ll last. A lot depends on where and how they are stored. Converting 8mm tapes into a digital format ensures that your footage can be backed up to current media like DVDs or hard drives time and time again, without suffering any degradation. It’s important to convert older video formats to newer formats, as the ability to play back older, proprietary formats can disappear.

Instructions

1. Organizing and labeling video tapes can be invaluable.

Organize your 8mm tapes and decide which digital format you will use. For example, this could be DVD or DV video stored on a computer hard drive. Use a high-quality video format, since you can always convert high quality video into other formats later.

2. RCA cables are marked yellow for video and red and white for audio.

Connect your 8mm camcorder or playback deck to a digital camcorder or digital conversion box using RCA cables (sometimes referred to as dubbing cables). Some tape camcorders may require a proprietary cable, but the end that connects to the digital camcorder will still look like standard RCA cables.

3. Firewire cables are often square on one side and rounded on the other.

Attach the digital camcorder or analog-to-digital converter box to a computer with a Firewire or USB 2 cable. If your computer has both, always choose Firewire over USB 2 when working with video. Most digital Mini-DV or HDV camcorders utilize Firewire connections.

4. Start up your video capture software and choose to import new footage from the camcorder. Microsoft Movie Maker is free software that comes with most Windows computers and has the ability to capture video. If you are on a Mac, you can use the free iMovie software. Press play on your 8mm camera or tape deck and the video will "pass through" the digital camcorder or converter box to your computer.

5. Save your newly converted video footage to your computer and back up to external hard drives or DVDs often. Remember, hard drives can fail. You don't want to lose your valuable video footage.

Connect A Microphone To A Home Reciever So Sound Comes Through The Speakers

You can use the "audio in" jacks on your home theater receiver for a wide range of audio experiments. Plug in your MP3 player to listen to music in surround sound. Set up your friend's video game console for an all night gaming marathon. You can even create a faux karaoke bar or backyard PA system with the addition of a simple microphone.

Instructions

1. Locate the audio inputs on your home receiver. Most receivers have inputs on the front and back. Usually, the front has a 1/4 inch or 1/8 inch stereo input (headphone jack). If available, use this jack. Otherwise, locate the most easily accessible RCA (red, yellow, white) input.

2. Identify the plug on your microphone. Most home-grade microphones have a 1/8 inch plug, similar to what you would see on headphones, or a 1/8 inch plug, a fatter version of the 1/8 inch plug.

3. Count the stripes on the plug. A plug with two black stripes is stereo (left and right channels). One black stripes denotes mono (one channel).

4. Determine your adapter needs. If the microphone's plug has two stripes and is the same size as the receiver's jack, you don't need any adapters. Plug the microphone directly into the receiver's audio inputs and continue. The "Tips" section below contains a listing of common adapter combinations.

5. Adjust the input selector on your receiver. Usually, the front headphone jack is played over the "Aux" channel. If you're uncertain, slowly move through the selections and speak into the microphone before moving to the next channel. When you hear sound over the speakers, you've found the right channel.

6. Do it. Plug the male end of your connector to your stereo's audio inputs. Then, plug the microphone into the female end. Change your stereo to the correct input (if it's on the front, it's usually AUX). Whatever it is, it should be labeled on your receiver, under where you plugged it in.

Connect An Amp To A Cassette Player

One benefit of analog audio devices is that they can often be easily connected to each other with an inexpensive adapter or cable. These adapters and cables can be bought in most retail consumer electronics or electronic supply stores. Connecting an amp to a cassette player is a simple task, but you should take care to lower the volume of both devices in order to prevent speaker damage. Loud pops, feedback or distortion can ruin your speakers in an instant.

Instructions

1. Determine what outputs your cassette player offers. These are often called "Line Out Left" and "Line Out Right." Typically, cassette players have left and right RCA (sometimes called "phono") outputs.

2. Determine what inputs your amplifier offers. Typically, amps have numerous input options, including RCA inputs. Sometimes inputs are labeled "Tape In" or "Line In," left and right.

3. Purchase a cable that will properly connect your two units. For instance, if your cassette player only offers a 1/8 stereo jack (sometimes called a "headphone jack") and your amplifier only accepts RCA inputs, you have to purchase a 1/8 stereo to RCA cable.

4. Lower the volume of both devices to zero.

5. Turn off both devices in order to avoid loud pops that can ruin your speakers.

6. Connect each end of the cable to the appropriate device.

7. Turn on the cassette player, followed by the amplifier.

8. Insert a cassette and play it, slowly raising the volume on the cassette player to a middle position.

9. Raise the volume on the amplifier. You should now hear the cassette playing. If you do not, check to make sure that your amplifier is properly connected to its speakers.

Get Live Portable Tv

Using a smartphone is one way to view TV broadcasts.

Being out and about while the big game is on isn't necessarily a problem if you have the right tools to watch live TV broadcasts. A portable video player, a software application for streaming broadcasts and a wireless network connection are some of the tools people use to bring TV to their fingertips.

Using Multi-Purpose Devices

One way to watch TV on the go is to use a device you may already have that can stream video. Many portable multi-purpose devices are capable of streaming live TV broadcasts when connected to a wireless network. Examples are the iPod, iPod touch, iPad and Android-powered smart phones. You need a compatible software application to stream TV to these devices such as netTV, TVUPlayer or WorldView Live for Apple devices. Live TV Player, Ustream or Mera Live TV can be used for Android devices.

About TV Apps and Service Subscriptions

To stream TV broadcasts to your smart phone or tablet, you must download an "app." What apps are available depends on what device you use. Some are free; others charge a one-time fee for downloading. For an app to work you may also need a subscription to the service that streams the broadcasts. The service could be provided through your wireless carrier or through a third party. Some channels like major league sports channels offer exclusive subscriptions just to their own broadcasts. As of October 2011, prices for a TV service to a smart phone or tablet started at $10 per month.

Using a Laptop and Websites

If you don't want to use a hand-held device, a laptop with an Internet connection can also stream live TV broadcasts. Connect to wireless hotspots when you are on the go or use a wireless Internet card and a data plan from a wireless network service provider. Websites like wwiTV and Ustream.tv stream free broadcasts from multiple stations. Many TV broadcast stations also run live streams directly from their websites. Several sports broadcast stations offer live Internet broadcasts with a subscription.

Flo TV

As an alternative to computers and smartphones, Flo TV manufactures portable handheld televisions that work with a wireless subscription to its broadcasting service. Flo TV operates a TV network separate from other major wireless network providers. When you use this service, you are not competing for as much bandwidth. It doesn't require downloading or buffering, so it can potentially provide broadcasts faster than other services.

Put Movies On A Digital Picture Frame

Some digital picture frames can now play audio.

Digital picture frames are not only for displaying static pictures; they're becoming a popular item for those who want to watch a movie on a tablet-like screen. In 2008, the first digital picture frames that allowed audio appeared on the market, and since that time the frames have gained in popularity. According to Parks Associates, sales of digital photo frame products will exceed 12 million in 2010.

Instructions

1. Use a digital picture frame that has audio and video capability. Because you'll be using your frame to watch movies, also consider the size, resolution and display technology of the frame. You can select from a frame resolution of 640 by 480 pixels to 1,280 by 1,024 pixels, but try to purchase a frame with active matrix thin film transistor display technology.

2. Load your movies onto a feeding device using a memory card or USB drive that is compatible with an outlet on your digital picture frame. If you're using a memory card within a camera, your movies should be stored on the memory card. If you're loading movies onto a USB from your computer, plug in the USB to the port on your computer and save the movies to the USB.

3. Turn on your digital picture frame. Insert the feeding device with the movies on it into the outlet on the side of the frame.

4. Locate the movie on the list of items that is displayed on the screen and play it. Every item that is on the feeding device should be displayed if it is compatible with the picture frame.

How Does An 8track Tape Work

According to Recording History, 8-track cassettes were manufactured containing a magnetic loop of ¼-inch tape. Each tape was divided into eight channels of stereo sound, giving the tape format its 8-track name.

History

Recording History reports the 8-track audio playback format was created under the direction of Learjet business plane inventor Bill Lear. When Lear's airplanes were equipped with 4-track audio systems, Lear was unhappy with the quality, so in 1965 he marketed the first 8-track machines.

Tape

8 Track Heaven explains that the tape held within the 8-track cartridge is played in a continuous loop, because tape is pulled from the center of the cartridge and backs around the outside of the looped tape. The tape is passed over a playback head at the front of tape to create sound.

Channels

At each time the 8-track machine reads and plays two channels of audio to create stereo sound, according to 8 Track Heaven. When the loop of tape has been completed, the playback heads automatically reposition on the next channel to play the next stereo track.

Use A Telephone Headset

We are often in the middle of something when the phone rings. Rather than dropping everything or ignoring that important call, use a telephone headset. Using a headset will free your hands to multitask your time. If you are at work, you can be operating the computer to answer a question or solve a problem. There are many styles to choose from and one is sure to meet your needs.

Instructions

1. Decide what the headset is supposed to do. Both land line phones and cell phones allow the use of a headset. Studies have shown that individuals that spend much of their time on the phone suffer 40 percent more muscle strain and tension than those that spend little time on the phone. A headset gives you much needed relief from the muscle ache and pain generated from holding a handset and using your neck to "lock" it into your shoulder so you can use both hands to perform a task.

2. Find a style of headset that you are comfortable with. There are many to choose from. There are types where the receiver fits around the ear or slips into the ear canal and there are microphones that are on booms to sit in front of your mouth. Very sensitive ones are contained in the receiver. Everyone has different tastes and comfort characteristics.

3. Purchase the headset that will work best for your application. Hook the headset into the phone system and test it. To install the headset disconnect the handset from the telephone and connect the headset. Make sure that you have enough free wire to allow movement while you are on the phone. There are extensions of 10, 15 and 25 feet.

4. Learn to operate the control box or button on the headset. Most headsets have a box or button that allows you to take the phone off the hook and to hang the phone up. Some models also have mute buttons and buttons that allow you to place a call on hold. Don't wait until you are in the middle of a call to try to figure it out.

Use A Nokia Cell Phone

Nokia makes some of the most popular cell phones available on the market today. With its sleek design, predictive texting, and a large number of applications available, it's no wonder that Nokia has become the biggest mobile phone maker in the world. Part of the secret to Nokia's success is that despite the fact that technology has become more complicated they've managed to keep their interface intuitive and easy to use.

Instructions

1. Turn on the phone by holding the red phone symbol on the right hand side until the screen lights up.

2. Call a phone by dialing the number on the key pad and then pressing the green phone symbol. To hang up press the red phone symbol.

3. Lock the phone by pressing the topmost left button followed by the star key. This prevents you from accidentally dialing a number. Do the same to unlock phone.

4. Text message by pressing the menu button, select message, followed by create message. The nice thing about Nokias are they have a predictive texting function, which makes the phone guess the word you are trying to spell. You can press the plus button on the bottom left corner to select different words or the options key at the top to spell out the word manually. Use the hash key to make the letters capitalized or lower case.

5. Take a picture by sliding the back of the phone down. This will automatically start the camera up. You can use the options button to activate a flash or just click on the take picture button to take the photo.

6. Listen to an MP3 by clicking on the menu button. Find the option that says Mp3 and click on listen to music. Scroll down your list of songs and choose the one you want to listen to. You can alternatively create play list by choosing this option and create a list of your favorite songs.

Directions For Vivitar 5600 Flash

The Vivitar 5600 flash is a peripheral unit that can be used with different cameras models.

The Vivitar 5600 is a peripheral flash unit that has automatic "fill flash" options for dimly-lit scenarios, as well a built-in diffuser to scatter light under excessively bright conditions. The flash affixes to a number of film cameras. However, there are some voltage incompatibility issues with particular digital cameras. You should test this flash in a retail shop to determine if it is safe to use with your digital model.

Instructions

1. Choose the setting that enables your flash to ignore "pre-flashes" that come from your model's built-in flash.

2. Put your flash into "Auto" mode by adjusting the related switch on the unit -- to simplify matters. Then set the camera to the aperture setting you want and take the shot. The "Auto" setting pulls metering information from the camera and takes the guesswork out of flash distance calculations in relation to your subject. This setting automatically adds an appropriate amount of "fill flash" and makes taking pictures easier.

3. Select the setting on the flash that matches your focal length. For example, if you are shooting with a zoom or telephoto lens, you need different lighting requirements than you would with a wide angle lens. Choose the related "W" setting for a wide-angle lens and this will help you get an appropriate amount of light into that particular shot.

4. Angle the flash upward to create reflective light indoors for more advanced lighting manipulation techniques. This is useful in portraits so your subjects are photographed in natural-light situations. Use a bounce reflector card that affixes to the flash for the same natural-light effect.

Uses For Zinc Chloride

A lesser-known salt, zinc chloride has other functions as well as providing nutrition.

Once known as "butter of zinc," zinc chloride is a versatile chemical suitable for aiding many aspects of daily life. Zinc chloride easily binds itself to water, known as hygroscopy, so it is an ideal compound for maintaining water purity. Zinc chloride is also a conductor of electricity, making it a useful electrical compound, and it supplements the amount of zinc in both plants and animals, making it an important dietary compound.

Water Treatment

Zinc chloride reduces the speed of corrosion of other metals. It is because of this property that cooling tower owners use zinc chloride to prevent the interior of the tower from corroding as quickly. Zinc chloride is also present in drinking water as well as gas and oil wells.

Agriculture

In order to attain optimum plant growth, sufficient levels of zinc must be present. Farmers who live in areas where zinc is not as abundant can expose their crop to zinc solutions. Manufacturers combine zinc chloride with other chemical compounds known as chelating agents to create these zinc solutions.

Flux

Metal workers use zinc chloride in a flux before soldering or welding two pieces of metal together. A flux containing zinc chloride is a cleaning agent that removes any oxides or other impurities from the metal surfaces. Cleaning the metal with a zinc chloride flux increases the bond of two soldered metal pieces.

Dry-Cell Batteries

Manufacturers of dry-cell batteries use a zinc chloride paste to conduct the electricity and provide electrical power. The zinc chloride also acts to absorb moisture and inhibit corrosion. The low production cost of dry-cell batteries makes them perfect for devices that receive intermittent use, such as flashing barricade lights, navigation aids and electronic watches.

End Of Life Uses For Liion Batteries

Li-ion batteries are commonly used in cellphones, laptop computers and other mobile electronic devices.

Lithium-ion batteries are becoming more prevalent everyday because of they have a high energy density for their weight, and they don't suffer from the memory effect commonly associated with rechargeable batteries. However, even if they do not have a memory effect they will gradually lose some of their capacity. It is estimated that a lithium-ion battery in typical use will last between 2 and 3 years before its running time begins to drop noticeably. Although there is not much you can do to restore a worn-out lithium-ion battery, that does not mean it is time to throw it away.

Power Your Home

There are several projects, like the one sponsored by the Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle Research Center at the University of California, looking for new uses for the Li-ion batteries that power electric vehicles. These large and expensive batteries have to be replaced when they reach 80 to 70 percent of their capacity, but researchers are looking for a way to repurpose them. One of the most promising uses is energy storage for alternate energy generators. A battery that is to weak to power an electric car may be more than appropriate to store the energy of a solar generator for nighttime use, for example.

Recycling

Chances are that you will be able to find a battery recycling program operating in your region. The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation is among the organizations that promote recycling of rechargeable batteries in the United States, collecting batteries from consumers and businesses and sending them to recycling organizations. Non-profit collection is important because of the low value of batteries as scrap metal: Processing 1 ton of batteries will yield roughly $100 in nickel and cobalt--the collection and recycling of batteries would not be a sustainable business without the assistance of volunteers, even if it makes good environmental sense.

Rebuilding

Lithium-ion battery packs have many electronic components besides the battery proper: Several sensors and micro-processors are required to monitor the state of the battery and regulate the recharging process. When a battery pack reaches its end-of-life, it can make economic sense to open the battery pack and replace the Li-ion cells while keeping the rest of the mechanism. Li-ion cells can often be ordered by part number, but only the tech-savvy should attempt the operation, which is likely to void the guarantee.

Professional Photography

About Professional Photography

Professional photography can take many forms. From documenting people, products, services and industries, professional photography scopes much larger than the family portrait studio. Results from a professional photography service should be unvarying, reliable and well executed. Portrait studios, newspapers, advertising agencies and large corporations employ professional photographer to produce photography products.

Identification

Consistent, quality results characterize professional photography. Well lit images, with creative lighting patterns are essential. Clear, sharp images with crisp color and saturation are also signs of professional photography.

Composition and posing should be pleasing to the eye. The arrangement of subjects, attention to background detail and foreground elements should be apparent. A focus on color coordination, the blending of shapes and balancing of textures should also be visible. The images should look natural, and inviting, rather than stiff and uncomfortable.

Artistic expression may break all of these guidelines, but as long as the photograph is powerful, has intrinsic value and has been executed with technical perfection, it may still be classified as professional. The level of photographic quality is always negotiable by the artist.

Benefits

Professional photography services and pieces of art should give the consumer a reassurance of quality and consistency. A higher level of expectations can be met when a professional photographer is completing the photographic work.

Features

Creative options, cropping, styling, coloring and retouching are options available from a professional photographer or photography service. Professional photographers that offer digital services can use photo editing software to remove blemishes, take out backgrounds or even merge multiple photos together. Color photographs can be tinted, turned black and white, sepia toned or even partially colored.

A guarantee of clear, well composed photographs may be made by a professional photographer. An average camera user can't produce such consistent results, or offer extensive imaging options, like a professional photographer.

Type

Portrait photographers document people, pets and objects. Photojournalists record events for news and media outlets. Documentary photographers record changes over time with photographs. Advertising and marketing photographers work with companies to best showcase products, services and features of their company.

Fashion photographers work with models, hairstylists and make-up artists to create photographs for clients that range from clothing to food products. Corporate photographers document business growth and create photographs for annual reports, business promotional materials and does portraits of key business professionals.

Effects

Professional photography documents growth and change with a high quality product. It can also create memories, preserve milestones and provide a visual record of an individual, family, business or product.

Expert Insight

Professional photographers use SLR, or single lens reflex, style cameras. Some may use medium or large format cameras when reproduction of the images will exceed stand household prints, such as billboards. Interchangeable lenses are used with the cameras to create a variety of looks in the photographs. Telephoto lenses allow the professional photographer to shoot subjects that are far away. Wide angle lenses allow photographers to work in tight spaces. Studio lighting, external flash units, backdrops and reflectors are also used by professional photographers.

Uses Of Thermal Imaging Cameras

Uses of Thermal Imaging Cameras

The science and technology of thermography, or thermal imaging, continues to expand, but already there is a wide array of uses for thermal imaging cameras. Thermal imaging is a branch of technology that uses wavelengths related to heat to create images within a given area. Whereas photography uses wavelengths related to ambient and artificial light to process images, thermal imaging cameras process images through relative amounts of heat, and thus do not require light to work.

Night Vision

One of the most well-known uses of thermal imaging cameras is for night vision. The camera detects heat radiated by human bodies, animals, machines and other heat sources, which, in turn, returns an image that reflects the size, shape and intensity of the heat source. Military operations typically use night vision to direct their efforts when trying to navigate nighttime terrain without being detected. Peacetime uses for night vision include search-and-rescue operations when rescuers are trying to locate a potentially nonresponsive victim in the dark.

Maintenance

Companies use thermal imaging to determine whether machines or structures are performing as well as expected or to determine where the weaknesses are. Because the camera detects heat, an image that shows excessive heat in a given part of a machine may indicate that a part needs repair or replacement. Heat leaking out of a given structure in places might indicate a gap or other kind of weakness that may need to be addressed.

Human Body Anomalies

If a person is ill and feverish, her body will produce more heat in its attempt to fight off infection, and a camera may be able to pinpoint the source of the infection. Also, if there is the presence of an abnormal object in the human body, whether it be a swallowed object or something the person is attempting to smuggle, the disparity in the heat given off by the object versus the body's normal tissue temperature will show up in the image returned by the camera.

Firefighting

In a case where a structure may or may not be on fire, and firefighters need to pinpoint the source and potentially dangerous areas without the presence of flames or smoke, thermal imaging cameras can detect the source and intensity of the fire, which can make the firefighters' job more efficient and safer.

Finding Hidden Objects

Some things can be seen by the naked eye and others cannot. If law enforcement, for instance, suspects an illegal drug manufacturing operation (a meth lab, for instance), officers can train their cameras on a specific area to detect if there are heat images that may indicate the heat consistent with laboratory operations. Similarly, if a person is being imprisoned or hidden, or a body buried to hide evidence, thermal imaging cameras can detect the presence of a live or decomposing body through the barriers meant to hide them.

Convert An 8mm Movie To A Dvd

Transfer your old footage to a digital format.

There's plenty of old 8mm film stashed away in closets, attics and even garages all over the world. Film degrades over time, so if you want to keep your moving images intact, you'll need to transfer them to a digital format. Having this done by a professional can be very expensive. Luckily, transferring your old 8mm films to DVD at home is easy, and you likely already have all the equipment necessary. You'll be projecting the old films, recording the projection with a digital camcorder, and transferring that digital video to a computer to make a DVD.

Instructions

1. Set up the projector. If you have old 8mm films, you likely already have an old 8mm projector. If you don't, you can get one on eBay for less than $50. Put the film reel onto the projector. Aim the projector at a screen or a clean white wall.

2. Put a tape in your camcorder and aim it at the screen or wall. Keep the camcorder stable. If you don't have a tripod, place the camcorder near the projector on a table or even a stack of hardcover books. Thread the projector with the film and turn it on. Align the camcorder so it captures the entire projected image. Adjust the zoom controls, if necessary. If your camcorder allows, manually adjust the focus, exposure and white balance settings to get the best image.

3. Press "Record" on the camcorder. Turn off the lights and start the projector. You can leave the room if you like, but you'll probably want to watch the process and see your old film.

4. Once the film footage is recorded, connect your camcorder to your computer using a firewire cable and start up your video editing software (iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, etc.). Capture your video and drag it into the timeline. Edit out any unnecessary footage and cut off the black video at the beginning and end of your source footage.

5. Use your video editing software to burn a DVD. With iMovie, you can export your video project directly to iDVD. If you're using another program, export your video file and then import it into your DVD authoring software. Set up a DVD menu that fits your tastes and determine whether you want your DVD to immediately play your video or to first cue up the menu. Burn the DVD. At this point, you can delete the video files from the computer if you like, or keep them there as a backup, in case you want to burn another DVD some day.

Jvc Kdhdr60 Vs Kenwood Kdchd545u

The JVC KD-HDR60 and the Kenwood KDC-HD545U are in-dash CD receivers -- installed in the dashboard of automobiles -- from Japan-based consumer electronics manufacturers Victor Company of Japan, Ltd. (better known as JVC) and Kenwood Corp., respectively. They are alike in several aspects, although the JVC receiver is generally a better offering than the Kenwood receiver.

CD and Music Playback

The JVC KD-HDR60 and the Kenwood KDC-HD545U are primarily used for playing CDs: mainly audio CDs, CD-Rs (CD-Recordable) and CD-RWs (CD-Rewritable). Users can also record MP3 and Windows Media Audio files on CDs to play them on either receiver. Each KD-HDR60 and KDC-HD545U provides the ability to hook up a digital media player or any electronic device with music playback capabilities, such as the iPod and the iPhone, by plugging them into the USB interface. The display screen can show music playback information such as album title and artist name.

Radio

Each JVC KD-HDR60 and Kenwood KDC-HD545U has a high-definition AM/FM tuner. In fact, the letters "HD" in their model numbers symbolizes this feature. The JVC receiver has an FM frequency range of 87.5 to 107.9 megahertz and AM frequency range of 530 to 1,710 kilohertz. The Kenwood receiver matches the JVC product's AM frequency range, but falls a bit short with the AM frequency range -- at 530 to 1,700kHz.

Technical Specifications and Connectivity

Both 4-channel CD receivers, the JVC KD-HDR60 and the Kenwood KDC-HD545U generate 50 watts of audio power from each channel for a total of 200W. For CD playing, the JVC receiver, at 98dB, does not have as good of a signal-to-noise ration as the Kenwood product, which stands at 105dB. However, unlike the KDC-HD545U, the JVC KD-HDR60 is compatible with Bluetooth wireless technology, with the user able to perform functions such as handsfree calling, audio streaming and a maximum phone book contact transfer of 5,000.

Physical Dimensions

In terms of installation size, the JVC KD-HDR60 and the Kenwood KDC-HD545U share the same width and height: at 7.19 inches, or 182 millimeters; and 2.06 inches, or 52 mm, respectively. The JVC receiver, however, is slightly thicker than the Kenwood receiver; the former has a depth of 6.31 inches, or 160 mm, while the latter has a depth of 6.25 inches, or 158 mm.

Run Cable To A Flat Screen Tv

With the new flat screen on the wall and your old cable outlet on the ground, you need an answer of fix it. Take the time and do it right or consider hiring a professional, but either way, relocate that outlet.

Instructions

Run Cable to a Flat Screen TV

1. Before you begin running your cable, decide where you are going to hang the TV. Find where your current cable is situated and determine where on your wall you will need to run your cable to. Find out what type of barriers are behind the wall that might impede you in running your cable from your existing box to the new one.

2. Cut the opening and install the new wall box for your cable outlet. Run your cable from the existing box to your new one by either grabbing it from the basement or attic and moving it to the new box, or use a coat hanger or fish tape to guide it from the new box to the old box if it is a short distance on the same wall.

3. Connect your old line to the new line and close the old wall box by patching it. Cut a piece of sheet rock the same size as the old cut out. Place mesh tape along the seams. Cover the seams with compound and let them dry. Sand down and reapply, if necessary. Paint to match the rest of the wall when the patch is done.

4. Hang the wall mount backing according to the manufacturers instructions. Attach the cable to the TV and secure the screen to the mount.

Take Sharper Digital Pictures

Taking blurry pictures with a digital camera is one of the most frustrating things about modern photography. After paying a good amount of money for a new digital camera, sharp pictures should be simple to take; yet even the most expensive cameras produce less than desirable pictures at times. With a few tips and techniques, you can obtain a clear sharp picture.

Instructions

1. Buy a digital camera that offers Image Stabilization or an Anti-Shake feature. This greatly reduces the amount of accidentally blurry pictures taken. This mode also offers a better solution to camera shake at greater zoom distances.

2. Use a tripod whenever possible. Purchase a quality, heavy-duty tripod if the camera will see a lot of outdoor usage. The heavier the unit, the better it will control the camera shake and won't tip over in a mild breeze. Consider buying a tripod that has a pan-head feature, which allows a greater range of tilt and pan options for the camera.

3. Brace an arm or shoulder against a steady or sturdy object nearby. This will help any shake to the camera by keeping the shooter steady for the shot. When no object is near to use, keep elbows tucked in at the waist and keep a firm grasp on the camera. Take a short breath before releasing the shutter.

4. Pre-focus the image on the camera's viewfinder before pressing the shutter release. Compose the shot on the viewfinder and then press the shutter button down halfway to auto-focus the subject. While still holding the shutter button down halfway, completely press the button and take the shot.
