Adjust The Focus In A Video

When you are filming a subject with a digital video camera, some part of the camera frame will be in focus while another part will not be. Typically, you want your subject to be in perfect focus while the background takes up most of the out-of-focus area. There are a few things you can do to adjust the focus while filming a video.


Instructions


1. Point the lens of your camera directly at the subject you are trying to film.


2. Look through the view finder on your camera and manually rotate the focus ring on the lens to the left and right to adjust the focus (for cameras that focus via the lens). Continue to look through the view finder and adjust the focus until the subject is in focus and the background is out of focus.


3. Press and hold the "Focus" button on the digital camera's key pad (for cameras that focus via the key pad). Holding down the button will begin to increase and decrease the focal point. Look at the digital screen or through the view finder on the camera until the subject is in focus. Remove your finger from the "Focus" button.


4. Move your camera closer or farther away from your subject (to adjust focus without changing settings on your camera). You can also have the subject physically move farther or closer to the camera. Look through the view finder or into the digital screen until you find the point where the subject becomes focused.

Use Endoscopes

An endoscope is a piece of highly integrated medical equipment that is used to visualize the inside of a body part, either through an existing orifice or a created one. An endoscope contains a light and a small camera to record the internal images. An endoscope also contains small pinchers that are used to obtain specimens for biopsy. The trend nowadays is to use disposable one-time-use endoscope tubes to prevent cross contamination, due to the endoscope tubes being hard and expensive to sterilize. We will go over a basic stomach endoscopy.


Instructions


1. Place the patient on an NPO (nothing by mouth) diet for at least eight hours before the procedure is to be done.


2. Place the patient on his back with a neck roll under the neck to tilt the head back for easier insertion of the tube.


3. Spray the patient's throat with a numbing agent to help relax the throat muscles and decrease the natural gag reflex. Have the patient hold his breath before spraying the agent to prevent it from going down into the lungs.


4. Lubricate the entire length of the endoscope tube with the water-based lubricant. This will help with the insertion of the tube.


5. Have the patient open his mouth and hold his breath. Instruct him to swallow as you insert the endoscope tube, as this deactivates the gag reflex and helps increase patient comfort during the tube insertion.


6. Insert the endoscope tube through the patient's mouth, into his throat and down into the esophagus. Use the camera of the endoscope to guide you to be sure you don't go into the lungs. If you accidentally go into the lungs, the patient will usually start coughing. If this happens, withdraw the tube and begin again.


7. Begin taking pictures when the area you want to look at is visualized using the camera attachment on the endoscope tool. Rotate the tube to obtain pictures from different angles.


8. Take samples of any suspicious areas or lesions with the attached biopsy tools. Withdraw the biopsy specimens and place them in containers to be sent to the lab for testing. Reinsert the biopsy tool if additional samples need to be taken.


9. Instruct the patient to take a deep breath and let it out slowly as you withdraw the endoscope.


10. Place the patient in a slightly elevated position and monitor him for several minutes for any complications. When stable, the patient may return to his room, or he may be released to go home if this was done as an outpatient procedure.

Make A Thumb Scanner Using A Camera

A fingerprint scanner views a picture of the little ridges on your fingers to identify the unique pattern that is yours alone. You can make a digital camera into a "thumb scanner" that will save a picture of the fingerprint taken. The procedure relies on the macro setting of the digital camera -- selected from the menu settings -- which enables the lens to focus extremely close-up to an object. The digital camera will not be damaged in any way by using it as a thumb scanner.


Instructions


1. Open the battery compartment lid of the digital camera and insert new batteries. Close the lid. Open the memory card slot on the side of the camera and insert a compatible memory card into the slot. Close the lid. If the battery compartment also has a space for the memory card, skip this separate step.


2. Press the digital camera's "On" button. Press the "Menu" button that is typically located on the back of the camera next to the LCD viewing panel.


3. Select the "Lens" menu or a comparable menu -- the actual name will vary depending on the make of the camera. Select the "Macro" setting. Press the "Menu" button again to exit the settings.


4. Press the "Flash" button, or press the tab next to a flash icon to temporarily discontinue the use of the automatic flash feature. In some cases, activating the macro feature will automatically turn this off.


5. Place the camera on a table with the lens facing up. Place one of your thumbs in front of the lens, a few inches away. Press the shutter button on the digital camera halfway down to lock the focus of the thumb -- typically a "beep" will be heard to indicate that the focus is now locked.


6. Press the shutter button the rest of the way down to take a picture. Stand the digital camera up after the picture has been taken. Press the "Menu" button. Select the "Playback" feature and on the LCD screen you can see the picture that was just taken.


7. Select the thumb picture from the rest of the thumbnail pictures displayed on the LCD screen. View the picture of the thumb to verify that it is in focus -- if the thumb is not in focus, try taking another picture, moving the thumb closer or farther away than before. The thumb scan that your digital camera "thumb scanner" has taken can now be transferred to a computer via the memory card and viewed on a larger monitor screen or used with any security scanning program that you might have.

Iphone 4g Features

First made available on June 24, 2010, the iPhone 4G initially priced out at $199 for a 16 GB model and $299 for a 32 GB model with a 2-year contract through AT&T. This model of the iPhone is known for its durability and high quality display. It boasts dual cameras and mics for improved quality and functionality.


Exterior Casing and Screen


At 9.3 millimeters thin, Apple claims the iPhone 4G to be the world's thinnest smart phone as of late 2010. The aluminosilicate glass exterior, which is the same material used for helicopter and high-speed train windshields, makes the iPhone 4G more durable and scratch resistant.


The 4.3 inch retinal display is 326 ppi (pixels per inch) with pixels so small that the naked eye cannot see individual pixels. This makes the iPhone 4G display the highest resolution smart phone screen in existence. According to Digital trends, this is four times the pixel density of the average LCD screen. The display is one of the larger screens on the smart phone market at 960 by 640 pixels.


The iPhone 4G's capacitive touch allows for multi-touch activities. This allows for features such as pinch to zoom and two-finger tap.


Hardware Specifications


The 5-megapixel camera has a backside-illuminated sensor designed to improve photo lighting by capturing more light in the sensor. The video feature also records HD videos at a 720 pixel resolution and captures 30 frames per second. The camera also allows for video chat. There is also a front-facing secondary camera built in.


The iPhone 4G has two microphones to enhance call quality. Next to the doc connector on the bottom of the phone is the main mic, used for phone calls, voice commands and audio memos. The second mic is located near the headphone jack on the top of the device; it is for face time calls and to help eliminate background noise during phone calls.


The iPhone's built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery charges via USB to computer or through a power adapter. It allows for up to 7 hours of talk time or 300 minutes on standby. It runs an Apple A4 chip processor and has a 32 GB or 16 GB flash drive capacity.


Software


The iPhone 4G runs iOS 4 operating system, designed as the peer of the Android 2.1 operating system. The phone also includes a highly detailed photo and video editing software package. Software updates are available to improve the reception issues and other small operation issues. The advanced operating system allows users to sort applications into folders and allows for Web browsing via Safari browser.

5. Use the buttons in the top-right corner of the camera to zoom in and out on your chosen subject. Look through the viewfinder and frame your image as desired. Press down on the shutter button and wait for the beep. Examine the LCD screen to review the picture you have taken.

Tether A Windows Mobile

If you own a Windows Mobile phone with Internet capability, you can effectively share the Internet connection with your PC or notebook through a process called tethering. Tethering does not require any special software and you can connect your Windows Mobile phone to your computer through either a USB connection or Bluetooth wireless connection. While connected you have the ability to access the Internet on your computer as if it connected directly to the Internet, as long as your phone has a data signal.


Instructions


Tether Phone


1. Connect the Windows Mobile phone to your computer using the USB cable or pair the two devices using Bluetooth.


2. Press "Start" on the phone and scroll to "Programs." Select "Internet Sharing."


3. Choose "USB" or "Bluetooth PAN" (depending on how you connected the two devices) for the "PC Connection" field on the phone menu.


4. Select "My Connection3g" (or equivalent data connection for your network) for the "Network Connection" field on the phone menu.


5. Press "Connect" on the phone menu and wait 30 seconds for the device to connect.


6. Click "Start" and select "Connect To" on your computer. Select the Windows Mobile device.

What To Do When Water Seeps Into Your Cell Phone Battery

Like most electronics, cell phones are highly susceptible to water damage. Once inside a phone, water can bridge the gap between different electrical contacts, creating short circuits that can damage or destroy a phone and its battery. Under the correct circumstances, you may be able to prevent or repair damage to your phone and its battery.


Remove the Battery


As soon as your phone's battery is exposed to water, remove it from the phone. Do not attempt to power-down the phone, simply open the phone's rear cover and remove the battery. Remove any other removable components, such as SIM cards or SD cards, as well. Do not attempt to power on your phone or charge its battery or you may further damage the battery and the phone.


Check for Evidence


Verify that the water damage to your phone actually permeated the battery. Dry the surface of the battery with a paper towel and check for more water leaking out from inside the battery. If the water did not penetrate to the inside of the battery, it is probably still functional. You can also check for a small white or red sticker on the battery or in the phone's battery compartment. If the sticker is white, large amounts of water did not penetrate to the inside of the phone. If the sticker has turned red, the inside of your phone has been exposed to water.


Dry


Fill a Tupperware container halfway with rice. Remove any removable faceplates from your phone and put all of the parts of the phone and your battery in the container. Fill the rest of the container with rice and seal it. The rice will draw the moisture out of your phone and battery. This is important to prevent short circuits when you power up your phone. Leave the phone in the sealed container for three days, then remove and reassemble the phone. Attempt to power your phone on; if it does not turn on, you may need to replace the battery or the entire phone.


Replace


If only the battery was exposed to water and the rest of the phone avoided major damage, you may be able to replace the battery and continue using the phone. You can purchase replacement batteries for most phones over the Internet in standard capacity and expanded capacity models. If the white water damage label on the battery or the inside of the phone remained white, you can send your phone back to the manufacturer if it is still under warranty. If the label changed to red, the manufacturer will not accept it.

Diy Foamboard Reflector

Amateur or freelance photographers can build a reflector at home


Correct lighting is vital to good photography. It's something photographers need ways of managing. A reflector dissolves backlight problems by allowing you to control light sourcing. It does this by reflecting ambient light, or your camera's flash, off its surface and onto your subject. You change the lighting by moving the reflector.


Professional reflectors are expensive. You can build one at home, though, that does everything the professional models do and more; if you build it yourself, you can modify it. You won't get that flexibility out of a "pro" reflector.


Instructions


Constructing the Stand


1. Drill a 1/4-inch hole in the center of a T-connector, opposite the T-stem. This should fit snugly over the screw in your tripod. Tighten it with the wing-nut.


2. Push the 31-inch PVC pipe into the top of the T-connector. Put the last T-connector on top so that its lateral sockets point left and right.


3. Attach two 4-inch pipes into the remaining openings on the bottom T-connector, and two 6-inch pipes to the top.


4. Attach a 90-degree elbow to the end of each pipe. Insert a 2-inch pipe into the end of each elbow.


5. Attach an elbow connector to the two 2-inch pipes on the bottom. Make sure that these face forward: they support the foamboard from the bottom.


6. Attach 2-inch pipes to the two elbows on top of the frame, and attach the remaining two elbows to those. Make sure the elbows point to the sides.


7. Attach the last 4-inch pipes to the elbows on top.


8. Place the foamboard onto the frame. The bottom two elbows should support it like a bike rack, while the top two hold it in place.

Use Photocells

Photocells are sensors that detect light. There are countless reasons why they are useful and more beneficial than standard lighting. First of all, they are small, which means they are easy to work with and use in different locations. Second, they are very inexpensive. They're also low-power and don't wear out, which makes them highly energy-efficient. There are also less obvious benefits to using photocells; security, for example. Photocell lighting can be "tripped" if it is walked past. Also, photocell lighting can be used to illuminate any signs or advertisements for your business at night.


Instructions


1. Obtain photo cells for your desired application, such as outdoor lighting, from Radio Shack or a similar electronics store.


2. Choose the ideal location for the photocells. This should be an area where the photocells will receive plenty of light, such as outside in the sunlight, near a lamp, or in a well-lit room.


3. Position the photocells so that they will not be affected by any temporary light sources, such as porch lights, car headlights or rarely used lamps. Make sure there are no obstructions that would prevent your photocell lighting from being visible at night. This is especially important if your photocell lighting is being used to illuminate a sign for your business.


4. Determine which calibration method to use. The normal calibration procedure is usually recommended and is automatic, so you should always calibrate this way.


5. Clean your photocells to remove any dirt and oil that may have been left by your fingertips, and clean them regularly for the best performance.

Troubleshoot The Dsc F717 Sony Camera

Use the supplied USB cable.


Sony's DSC-F717 is a digital still camera from Sony's Cyber-shot brand. The camera is also capable of capturing video. Problems with the cameras can be related to the battery pack and power; shooting still images and movies; viewing and editing images; flash memory; and computer connection issues. Problems with the Cyber-shot DSC-F717 can be solved by following some troubleshooting steps.


Instructions


1. Turn the camera off to charge the battery pack if the battery pack isn't charging. Look for the charge lamp. It's the lamp marked "CHG." If the lamp flashes, the battery pack isn't installed properly. Seat the battery pack properly. You should be able to easily close the battery compartment door. It's normal for the camera to turn off suddenly when running on battery power--it's a battery-saving measure.


2. Insert a memory stick if the camera won't record still images or movies. Insert the memory stick the right way. It inserts from the right side. Take a look at the Mode Dial and make sure it's not set to "SET UP" or on the arrow icon, which indicates Playback mode. The camera won't record in Playback mode or Setup.


3. Set the write protect switch on the Memory Stick flash memory to the recording position if the deleting or editing functionality won't work. The switch mustn't be on the "Lock" position.


4. Move the camera away from the television if the images are noisy. Noise shows as specks of light, snow or other unacceptable degradation. Any strong magnetic field can cause noise, including microwave ovens.


5. Connect the camera to the computer to view images full size if they're too small on the camera. Use the supplied USB cable. You may have to disconnect the cable and reconnect it again if the computer won't recognize the Sony DSC-F717 Cyber-shot camera right away.

View Blackandwhite Negatives

Viewing negatives properly requires a loupe or a light box.


Viewing black-and-white negatives before developing larger photo prints is a useful way of discarding unwanted images and selecting only the optimal shots. To view black-and-white negatives, you will need a light box or a loupe, depending on how much detail you wish to see before development. A light box is a flat, backlit surface, and a loupe is a type of hand-held magnifier that shows more detail and gives a better idea of what the negative will look like when printed as a larger photo. Viewing photo negatives is a simple process that amateur photographers can undertake.


Instructions


1. Hold the negatives only on the edges to avoid smudging them with fingerprints. Use this method whether you are using a light box or a loupe to view the negatives.


2. Switch on the light box so that its white surface is illuminated. Place the negatives in the center of the light box, where the most light emanates from. This will allow you to view the negatives.


3. Use a loupe to view the images in greater detail. Do this in a well-lit room. Hover the loupe slightly above the negatives to avoid damaging them.


4. Hold the negatives against a window as the sun shines through. This has an effect similar to that of the light box and does not require an amateur photographer to purchase any additional equipment.

1. Open iTunes (see Resources section). Arrange the songs you would like to burn into one playlist. Most CDs can hold 700 MB, which is approximately 80 minutes of music.


2. Check that the information for each of the songs you wish to burn is accurate. To adjust song information---such as song title, album title or artist name---right-click the song and select "Get Info." Click the "Info" tab and adjust the information accordingly.


3. Insert the writable CD into your computer's disc drive. Cancel any pop-up menus that appear.


4. Open the playlist you wish to burn. Click and drag the songs so they are listed in the order in which you would like them to appear on your CD.


5. Click "Burn Disc" in the bottom right corner of iTunes.


6. Select the "Include CD Text" option. When this option is checked, click "Burn."

Infrared (IR) photography involves capturing invisible light to produce striking images. To change a digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera to infrared, you can add a filter and make minor adjustments or you can modify the camera permanently.


If you're just starting to explore infrared photography, it is safer to choose the simpler and nonpermanent option, which will enable you to learn how infrared photography works while still allowing you to use your D-SLR camera for normal shooting.


Instructions


1. Check your digital SLR camera and lens to get the specifications for buying a new filter. The IR filter you buy must fit the lens well.


2. Buy the IR filter for your camera. There are numerous options on the market. The main difference lies in the range of wavelengths each IR filter lets through.


3. Put your camera on a tripod and compose your shot early on. Once the filter is attached to the lens, you will most likely see nothing in the viewfinder. An IR filter looks black, and it readily blocks the image you should see in the viewfinder.


4. Put the filter onto the camera lens.


5. Use manual exposure. The camera's exposure meter won't work correctly with this set-up. Moreover, exposure times for IR photography are very long, even in broad daylight. Benchmark exposure times are 10 to 30 seconds; thus, a tripod is vital for avoiding motion blur. This is why most IR photos have subjects that are not moving. Landscapes are popular subjects for IR photography not only because they are static but also because most living things are rich in infrared.


6. Set your camera to auto focus (AF). It will also help if you step down the aperture enough to get focus on the entire distance of your subject. Older lenses may have a special IR focus distance guide. However, modern auto focus lenses do not.


7. Choose the lowest ISO setting to keep the noise level as low as possible.

Restore 8mm Film

8mm film reel


Restoring 8 mm film requires a combination of analog and digital methods. Many telecine houses offer custom 8mm transfer and restoration services, but with your old projector and some free and open-source video editing software, you can restore and reformat 8 mm film yourself. To restore your own 8 mm film, you must clean it by hand, project it onto a screen and record that projection with a digital video camera. Import the resulting video onto your computer and use free software to reduce grain and remove scratches.


Instructions


1. Attach the head leader to the take-up reel on the projector and wind the film onto it gradually, inspecting as you go.


2. Wipe any dirt, dust or fingerprints from the film using the lint-free cloth and film cleaner. Use a cotton swab dipped in film cleaner to spot-clean specific frames.


3. Peel off splicing tape that looks weak or damaged. Swab the film frames that were beneath the tape to remove any glue residue, then re-tape the splice on both sides with your splicer. Reinforce any broken sprocket holes with splicing tape.


4. Place your reels on the projector, and thread the head leader to prepare for playback.


5. Mount the videocamera on the tripod, and focus the lens on the screen. If you don't have a screen, use a clean white wall. If your wall is colored or textured (e.g. stucco), you can tape a sheet of watermark-free white paper to it, preferably with a whiteness rating of 92 or above.


6. Start the projector and record the film with your digital video camera.


7. Connect your video camera to your computer via firewire or USB cable and import the footage.


8. Download the latest version of VirtualDub (link in resources) and extract the .zip archive. Because VirtualDub is a standalone application, no further installation is necessary.


9. Download the MSU Old Film Restoration filter (link in resources) and extract it to the "plugins" directory within VirtualDub.


10. Launch VirtualDub, import your footage and run the Old Film Restoration Filter to reduce film grain and remove dust and scratches.


11. Export your completed, filtered video to any of a variety of common file formats.

Pole cameras provide a different view and allow a unique photo composition. A pole camera system simply mounts a camera on an extendable shaft. The extended pole gives a bird's eye view to the photographs. The system is used by creative photographers, building inspectors and sports photographers. A telescoping pole camera system can be made by do-it-yourselfers with modest abilities and tools.


Instructions


1. Add a camera tripod head to the top of an extendable painters handle. The top of the handle includes an attachment bolt that fits to the paint roller. Commercial adapters are available to convert that fitting to the 1/4 inch bolt shaft common to the base of the tripod head.


2. Attach a padded rest plate about 1 foot below the tripod head using epoxy glue. This plate extends about 8 inches from the pole in all directions and is made from stiff closed cell material. The plate serves as bumper and keeps the camera from striking the ground if the pole is laid on the ground. The plate usually includes a mark indicating the direction the camera is pointed because it obscures the camera from view from directly below.


3. Attach a remote cable release to the camera. String the cable along the paint extension pole using cable ties every couple of feet to keep the cable from flopping about. Set the camera to fully automatic and angle the tripod head to provide a shot of the intended subjects.

Features Of Laser Printers

Laser printers use laser beams to accurately place dots of toner on paper.


Laser printers generate crisp, clear and repeated images on various materials ranging from paper and cardboard to plastic and metal printing plates. A paper laser printer operates similarly to a copier in that light magnetizes specific areas on a drum, attracting magnetic-colored toner. The toner is then transferred to the paper and fused with a scorching hot roller. The difference between a laser printer and a copier is that the copier uses a light to reflect an image from an original to the drum surface. A laser printer uses a computer-controlled laser to expose the drum in a series of very small, precisely positioned dots. Once the drum is exposed it then picks up toner and transfers it to paper, then the combination is fused.


Resolution


Laser printer imaging paper can have various resolutions ranging from 300 laser dots per inch (dpi) to up to 1200 dpi. The laser produces smaller and smaller dots for corresponding increases in the number of dots per inch. Laser printer imaging paper rarely has resolutions exceeding 1200 dpi because the physical properties of the toner cannot be reduced to smaller particles.


As the resolution increases, so does the smoothness and clarity of the printed image. Smaller and smaller dots arranged in curves and gradients result in less jagged edges and more subtle changes in screens. The higher the resolution, the more shades of gray are available. Three hundred dpi laser printers can produce 16 shades of gray, while 1200 dpi printers can produce 128.


Speed


Laser-printer speed is rarely restricted by the mechanical ability to move the paper. Speed is determined by the laser's ability to image the drum for repeated passes. Also, laser-printer speeds are affected by the computing power available to process and translate the image for the laser. Laser printers have processors and random-access memory (RAM), just like the computer used to produce the original file. Some laser printers have hard drives for storing data such as font files and other necessary graphic files. All of these factors can affect the laser printer's speed, measured in pages per minute. A relatively slow laser printer may run at 12 to 16 pages per minute. Faster laser printers can reach speeds of over 60 pages per minute. These machines are used for high-end graphic production such as address mailers and advertising supplements.


Color


Color laser printers work identically to black-only laser printers with one exception. Instead of one drum and one toner, the printer has four: black, cyan (a light blue), magenta (a pinkish red) and yellow. The four lasers image four drums, and the sheet of paper passes each drum separately. Once all four toners are on the paper, it is fused. Color laser printers usually come in only 1200 dpi resolutions in order to produce accurate color. Also, color laser printers run at relatively lower speeds because of the complexity of aligning the paper for accurate color registration and multiple laser and toner operations.

Auto-Focus

Scene Modes

Audiovox Electronics Corporation manufactures portable DVD players for viewing DVDs when you are away from home. The feature list for most Audiovox portable DVD players is the same. The difference between models is the size of the LCD screen. Audiovox portable DVD players will work as they should under most circumstances. You may encounter an occasional problem that prevents normal operation. By troubleshooting the device, you can often fix the problem, without the need of a service technician.


Instructions


1. Charge the internal battery if your Audiovox portable DVD player stops working. To charge the battery, plug the small end of the AC adapter into the "DC IN" jack on the back of the DVD player, and plug the opposite end into an electrical outlet. Slide the power switch to the "Off" position when charging the battery. You can run the DVD player from the AC adapter, if you choose.


2. Remove the DVD from the player if you are experiencing distorted video when playing back a DVD. Check the disc to ensure it is not warped or cracked. Take a clean, soft rag and wipe off the bottom of the disc to remove any debris or smudges. When cleaning the bottom of the disc, wipe from the middle of the disc outward to prevent damage. Use a light touch when cleaning the bottom of the disc. If you still have a distorted image, try another disc in the DVD player. If the second disc works, the problem is with the original DVD. If it doesn't work, you may need to have your DVD player serviced.


3. Replace the battery in the remote control if it no longer operates the DVD player. Remove the battery cover from the back of the remote control, discard the old battery and install a new CR2025 battery. Be sure to not block the remote control sensor when using the remote control.

Replace A Bulb In A Jvc Projection Tv

All JVC projection TVs display images by shining a beam of light inside the TV to convert a small picture into a larger picture. The source of this beam of light is a lamp (or "bulb"), which has a limited lifespan and must be replaced every one to two years. Although you can have the lamp replaced by an authorized JVC repair specialist, you can also replace the lamp at home by following certain steps.


Instructions


1. Order a compatible replacement lamp from JVC. Order a replacement lamp from JVC's Accessory Store or a local authorized parts distributor to ensure that you obtain a compatible replacement lamp. To order a replacement lamp, you must have the lamp type and lamp code of your JVC projection TV, which can be found on the rear of the television.


2. Turn off the television and allow the bulb to cool. For safety reasons, turn off and unplug your television before accessing any of its internal components. Wait at least 20 minutes before attempting to replace the lamp so that it has time to cool down. If the back of the television is not warm or hot to the touch, it is safe to begin removing the lamp.


3. Unscrew and remove the lamp door. The lamp door on JVC projection TVs is located on the rear left of the television and is shaped like a square. Several warnings related to the lamp will be printed on the door. Use a Phillips-head or flathead screwdriver to remove the large screw, then remove the door.


4. Unscrew and remove the lamp assembly unit. After you have removed the lamp door, you will see the lamp assembly unit. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the two screws. One screw is on the top right corner of the unit and the second screw is on the bottom left corner of the unit. Detach the lamp assembly unit from the compartment by lifting the handle and pulling the unit away from the television.


5. Install the replacement lamp and secure the lamp door. Hold the replacement lamp assembly unit by the handle and insert it straight into the compartment. Reinsert and tighten the two screws onto the lamp assembly unit with a screwdriver. Place the lamp door back onto the television and tighten the screw to secure it to the television.


6. Reset the television's lamp timer. Press "Menu" on the television's remote, then scroll to and select "Lamp Timer Reset." Press "OK" to rest the timer. A prompt will appear notifying you that the timer has successfully been reset.

Ford Audio Troubleshooting

Ford cars and trucks are equipped with audio units that have several optional systems: radio, cassette tape, compact disc player and MP3 player, and different equalizer and speaker combinations. No matter the model car or truck you have, troubleshooting problems with your Ford audio systems involves three basic parts: console, recorded music player and speakers. Determining where you have a problem is the first step to deciding what to do make it like new: repair or replace.


Radio


Before doing any disassembly or other intrusive actions, just make sure the outside antenna is not broken or disconnected. A Ford audio receiver cannot pick up any FM station without an antenna. If necessary, look inside the body panel to make sure the wires to the antenna are connected. If your Ford has the antenna in the windshield (two small wires inside the glass), see whether the glass is chipped or cracked, or whether the wires are broken.


If you have a satellite antenna on the top of your Ford automobile, make sure the antenna wires are connected. You may have to unfasten the roof liner in the passenger compartment for this procedure. To check the radio unit, you will have to disassemble the dashboard. Although time-consuming, this is not complicated. All the screws are along the bottom and side and there are clips to unfasten and remove the dashboard. Take out the radio console and check that the "ext. ant" connection is secure.


Recorded Audio Player


If you cannot play tapes, CDs or MP3s, you should check the unit while you have the dashboard disassembled. Make sure the power cord and all the speaker wires are connected. Make sure the recorded audio player is functioning, the tape spools turn and the CD mechanical operation functions properly. If you cannot play MP3s, make sure the audio input jack is connected and no wires are broken or frayed. A bare wire touching metal can cause systems to not operate correctly.


Speakers


If you have no sound, or static, you need to check the speakers. These are under the dashboard cowl right behind the windshield, or under the front doors or possibly the back doors, depending on the Ford model cal you have, and the backseat bonnet near the back window. Ford SUVs can have bass response speakers located to the rear near the lift gate. Check the speakers for proper connections. Check to see whether the speaker is "blown." This happens when speakers are old or you play the volume really loud. The paper cone in the speaker (the thin black center) can become damaged. Any damage to a speaker will mean replacing the unit. This is done easily by just unscrewing the fasteners, disconnecting the wire and installing a new speaker. No component of a Ford audio system requires any soldering for connections. Everything is done with screws and tabs.

Convert Cassettes To Digital

Immortalize your favorite cassettes in digital form. When you convert you old cassette tapes into digital audio, you'll have a secure electronic archive that won't deteriorate like cassettes. You'll also have option of emailing the files, editing and enhancing them or burning them to a CD or DVD--read on to find out just how easy it is.


Instructions


1. Insert the cassette into the cassette player. Connect one end of the 1/8" audio cable into the "Line Out" port on the cassette player. If the player doesn't have a line out port, plug the cable into the headphone port.


2. Plug the other end of the 1/8" audio cable into the "Line In" port on your computer's sound card.


3. Download a free copy of GoldWave, an audio-editing program, and then install it (see Resources). Open the program after the installation process has completed.


4. Click the "New" icon in the top left corner. In the "New Sound" menu, use the drop-down menus to set your recording's length and quality. When you're done, click "OK."


5. Press the red "Record" button in the floating "Control" menu located to the left of the main GoldWave menu and then press "Play" on the cassette player. When the recording is done, click the red "Stop" in the "Control" menu.


6. Click "File" in the upper left-hand corner of the main GoldWave menu and select the option "Save As" from the list.


7. Enter a name for the file in the the field labeled "File Name." Choose a file type to save the recording as from the drop-down menu labeled "Save As Type." Click the "Save" button when you're done.

Types Of Film Cameras

Film cameras have developed throughout the years and are still often used by artistic photographers despite the digital revolution.


The pinhole camera was invented around 1000 A.D., but it wasn't until 1827 that Joseph Nicephore Niepce was able to record the first photographic images, which disappeared shortly after they were created. In 1889 flexible roll film was created and paved the way for the mass produced film cameras. Today, film cameras come in a variety of styles and use many film formats.


Viewfinder Cameras


Also called box cameras, viewfinder cameras use a viewfinder separate from the lens to view the subject. These cameras have a limited aperture control and a single speed shutter. Point and shoot cameras, the type most commonly used for general snapshots, are viewfinder cameras.


Range Finder Cameras


Like viewfinder cameras, the range finder cameras use a viewfinder separate from the lens to see the subject. However, range finders show two images that come together when they are in focus.


Single Lens Reflex Cameras


Also simply called SLR cameras, these use the same lens for viewing the subject and taking the picture. SLRs are the most popular camera among professional photographers and photography students or enthusiasts. They allow the photographer to control the aperture and shutter speed and to swap lenses for various situations.


Twin Lens Reflex Camera


These cameras have separate viewing and taking lens. The picture is using viewed from above with the camera held at waist level. They use medium format film, which is larger than the standard 35mm film. Unlike SLRs, twin lens cameras have not become widely available in digital format, leaving film as the primary medium for this camera.


View Cameras


The view camera, one of the earliest developed working film cameras, is still in use today but only by high end professional and portrait photographers. These cameras come in a large variety for various situations. They use large format film, which is usually loaded one sheet at a time with one photograph per sheet. Although, some are able to use roll film with a special roll film holder.


Instant Cameras


Introduced and popularized by Polaroid, these cameras use film that contains the chemicals to develop and fix itself allowing the picture taker to have the developed photograph right after taking it. While the quality of these pictures is often unpredictable, the instant camera has a varied cult and art following as well as a great appeal for kids as a "toy" camera.

Introduction


You've been listening to music for years, but have you ever really thought about how a speaker actually creates sound? The speaker cone is the heart of the speaker and provides essential conversion so that you're able to hear all those songs that you love.


Speaker Dynamics


A speaker is actually a simple device when broken down. Essentially, there is a series of drivers each of which contains a magnet, an oscillating electromagnetic coil and a cone, usually composed of composite, metal or paper. Individual drivers are used for different frequency ranges. A tweeter is used for high frequencies, a woofer for low frequencies and a mid-range driver for those frequencies between the highs and lows. Additional drivers can be used to further break down frequencies and enhance the sound.


Sound


An amplified signal sent from a stereo amplifier drives the speaker. The AC signal, which contains the audio information of your CD or other recording, causes the electromagnetic coil to oscillate back and forth. An alternating current (AC) is one that constantly changes directions. As current reverses directions, the polarity of the electromagnetic coil also reverses, which causes it to alternate between repelling and attracting to the stationary magnet. This constant repel and attract cycle drives the oscillation of the coil. As the coil oscillates, it vibrates the speaker cone, which in turn vibrates air molecules, sending sound to your ears. In this way, the speaker cone reproduces the distinct frequencies contained within any recording.

Powering a car amplifier with a power supply, such as a charged car battery, requires two steps. The amplifier acts as any circuit and needs negative and positive supplies in order to work. The power wire, equipped with a fuse, runs all the way up to the car battery and connects to the positive terminal, completing the positive supply. The ground wire bolts directly to the vehicle's body, completing the negative supply, thus powering the amplifier.


Instructions


Connecting the power wire


1. Connect the power wire to the amplifier by plugging in the power wire's amplifier input into the amplifier's power output. It should be labeled on the amplifier, but if not, refer to the amplifier's wiring diagram for the power wire output's location.


2. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery for safety reasons and run the power wire along to the front of the vehicle underneath the dashboard area, such as near the brake and acceleration pedals.


3. Fold the carpeting back if necessary and look for a hole in the vehicle's body that will allow you to run the power wire through into the engine bay. You may have to cut a hole through the firewall with an X-Acto knife in order to complete this step.


4. Run the power wire through the hole and into the engine bay and connect the power wire's power source input to the positive terminal on the battery. You can do this by disconnecting the positive terminal and bolting it back on over the power wire's power source input. Install a rubber grommet around the hole to prevent water from leaking into the interior.


5. Connect the fuse to the power wire if necessary by plugging it in. Most power wires already have the fuse connected. The fuse should be installed as close to the battery as possible because in the case of a short circuit, the wire will burn up to the point of the fuse.

6. Mount the amplifier in a cool, well-ventilated area such as the trunk to prevent overheating.


7. Connect the ground wire's amplifier input to the amplifier. Refer to the amplifier's wiring diagram if you can't figure out where the ground output is located.


8. Find a nut or screw within 18 inches of the amplifier. This is what you'll connect the ground wire to.


9. Unscrew the nut or screw and chip away any paint on the body of the vehicle around the screw to give the ground wire direct access to metal.


10. Place the ground wire's lead, which is shaped like a circle, over the hole the nut or screw was bolted into and bolt the nut or screw back over the ground wire to complete the circuit.

Capacitors store power for quick release in electronic circuits. They're extremely useful in power supplies for regulating and smoothing out power flow, ensuring the circuits of an electronic device get the power they need when demand is high. External capacitors are often added to car amplifier circuits so that the amp receives a steady supply of power when demand is high, as when a system with subwoofers is being driven at a loud volume setting.


Instructions


1. Disconnect the power cable running to your amplifier from the car's battery.


2. Cut the power cable running to the amplifier at a spot about 2-3 feet from the amplifier. Strip the wire so that 1/2 inch of bare wire is exposed and crimp a ring terminal onto the wire at both sides.


3. Connect the power cable to the capacitor on the terminal marked "+". The exact type connector varies according to the brand of capacitor, but it's common to have to loosen a screw, slide the ring terminals onto the post, and then tighten down.


4. Cut a length of ground cable long enough to reach a grounding point on your car's body. The spot where the amp is grounded is a good option, or you may choose another spot where you can connect to bare metal.


5. Place a ring terminal on both ends of the wire, and attach one end to the capacitor and another to the ground location. Your capacitor is now connected to the amplifier.

Transferring the contents of an SD memory card or VHS tape to DVD requires several pieces of hardware, software and media. These must all be compatible in order to move your data to its final destination in a usable form.


Instructions


SD Memory Card to DVD


1. Place SD memory card into SD slot on computer. If there is none, buy and connect SD memory card reader into USB slot via USB cable. If your SD is High Capacity (SDHC), then the slot must also be a compatible SDHC slot.


2. Wait for pop-up wizard to show you the contents of the SD card on your computer screen. Otherwise, search for the SD card contents under the "Computer" folder.


3. Burn non-video data by copying the SD memory card files to the drive letter of your DVD burner drive. Burn the data to the drive containing your blank recordable DVD.


4. Convert video data that you wish to view on a DVD player into the .AVI format using video file format converting software. If you have none, this must be purchased or downloaded. Import the .AVI file into the video editing software and then output the file to the DVD burner. As with the other software, your computer may have come with it; however, it is usually the case that those are lite versions that do not do the tasks well.


5. Import the .AVI file into the video editing software and then output the file to the drive letter of your DVD burner drive. Or for more precision of layout, use the DVD authoring software. VHS to DVD


6. Connect your VCR to the three (audio left, right and video) jacks on your computer using the RCA cable. If your VHS tape was encrypted, then place the copy-protection filter box in line between the VCR and the computer. The box is also a signal enhancer that maximizes video signal quality.


7. Open the video capture software on the computer. Select your input source, which is the jacks to which you connected the RCA wire. Select your capture time to match the length of the tape in minutes. Set your VCR to play and click the button to begin capturing video. The capture will take the actual duration of the tape's play-through.


8. Select the option to burn the captured video to the blank DVD.

The Best Ways To Mount A Gps

A GPS can help a lost driver find his or her way in an unfamiliar city. They are so useful that they are becoming standard in new cars. New cars have the GPS built into the dashboard. In older vehicles, the GPS will have to be mounted onto an object. Suction mounts are included with the GPS, but there are other options for mounting a GPS.


Suction Mount


The suction mount is included with all GPS units and is used to mount the GPS to a windshield or dashboard. The mount uses a suction cup with a lever. When the lever is pressed, the suction cup attaches to a black disc that is attached to the windshield or dashboard. Minnesota is the only state that prohibits drivers from mounting the GPS to the windshield. Check with your local government for laws on mounting GPS units. A suction mount can be attached to a dashboard, but the surface must be flat.


Velcro


Velcro with adhesive backing can be used to mount a GPS to a dashboard. Attach a strip of Velcro to the back of the GPS and the dashboard. There are some drawbacks to using Velcro to mount a GPS. If removed, the Velcro can leave a sticky spot on the dashboard. The Velcro may come lose over time and won't be able to hold up the GPS.


Cup Holder Mount


A cup holder mount is put into a cup holder, and the GPS can be mounted to it. Cup holder mounts can be bought or made. They are made by gluing the black disc from the suction cup mount to a piece of PVC pipe. The pipe is placed in the cup holder and the suction mount is attached to it.


Air Vent, Sun Visor, Light Socket Mounts


A GPS can be mounted to the air vent, sun visor or light socket. These mounts are inexpensive and can be bought at any GPS retailer.


Handlebar Mount


A handlebar mount is used to mount a GPS on a motorcycle or bike. The GPS is held onto the handlebar using a u-bolt and nuts. Handlebar mounts can be installed at home. The handlebar mount kits can be purchased at a local GPS retailer.

Use Dazzle Video

Dazzle Video is hardware that lets you connect a device such as a digital camcorder to your computer in the event your machine doesn't have the necessary inputs like FireWire. You can connect your digital camcorder to the Dazzle Video device using composite video and audio cables, and then plug the Dazzle Video device into a USB port on your computer. This is especially helpful on older machines with older video cards that don't have all of the required inputs necessary for hardware connections.


Instructions


1. Locate the composite video and audio cables that came with your digital camcorders. There will be three cables---one red, one white and one yellow. If your camcorder didn't come with these cables you can find them at any electronics retailer. You can also use the composite cables that are connecting other devices in your home, such as a DVD player to a TV for example, if you don't want to buy additional cables for this one purpose.


2. Plug the composite video cables into your digital camcorder. The red and white cables are audio cables; they go into the red and white audio jacks on your camcorder. The yellow cable is a video cable, and it needs to go into the yellow input on your camcorder.


3. Plug the other ends of the composite video cables into the Dazzle Video device. Match up the colors, and make sure the red, white and yellow cables are plugged into the red, white and yellow inputs on the Dazzle Video device.


4. Plug the USB cable attached to the Dazzle Video device into a USB port on your computer. Any USB port will work for this purpose.


5. Turn on your computer. Your machine will immediately recognize the Dazzle Video device. You can now watch the video from your digital camcorder on your computer, or use a program such as Windows Movie Maker or Adobe Premiere to capture the video to your hard drive.
