Install Magellan Maps

The Magellan brand of GPS system features several models that allow users to download updated maps to their device. These maps are all available on the Magellan website and can either be downloaded free of charge as part of a map upgrade package (generally sold with the device) or purchased alone. However, after the maps are downloaded from the official Magellan website, they must be installed on your device.

Instructions

1. Double-click on the downloaded map file, then install the map utility, as well as the map data, to your computer. When prompted for specific storage areas, click "OK" to keep the default settings.

2. Connect your Magellan GPS to your computer using the sync cable that was bundled with it. Plug the small end of the cord into your Magellan's GPS data port and the large end into your computer's USB port.

3. Go to the "Start" menu and open the VantagePoint software. This software was installed when you downloaded the map.

4. Click on the "Library" tab and then select "Browse." Then click "Add Map" and select the map you just downloaded. If you kept the default file location, the containing folder should open automatically.

5. Click "OK" to start the map download. Once the map has been added to your GPS, you will receive a confirmation message. You can then close the VantagePoint software and disconnect the GPS unit from the computer.
