Use A Zune Player

The Zune is Microsoft's MP3 and portable multimedia player. The player features a responsive touch pad for easy navigation, and easily syncs with your computer for fast, simple file sharing. Here's a closer look at get the Zune set up and working for you.

Instructions

Setting Up

1. Get the latest Zune software at Zune's website (see Resources below).

2. Hook your Zune up to the computer's USB port with the sync cable or dock and allow it to charge. It will take 2 hours or so to fully charge.

3. Set up your Zune using the software. Name your Zune and link it to your Zune Tag (if you have an account on Zune's social network).

4. Link Zune to your computer so that you can automatically update music, videos, pictures, podcasts and friends. Zune can only be linked with one computer at a given time, so if you don't intend to link to the computer you're using, sign in as a guest. You can manually add media files this way without automatically sharing.

5. Sync your files between your computer and your Zune. You can choose what types of media to sync and whether to include all files or hand-pick the ones that you want to add to your Zune. Syncing may take a while depending on how many files you plan on sharing. Connect the Zune and your computer with a sync cable and it will start syncing automatically.

Playing Media Files

6. Turn Zune on or off using the "Play/Pause" button.

7. Navigate through Zune using the touch pad. Use the pad to scroll through options by running your finger up or down. Touch the pad to stop scrolling. Click the center of the pad to select options.

8. Run your finger left or right to scroll through artists, playlists and radio stations.

9. Lower or raise the volume by running your finger up and down the touch pad.

10. Shut touch pad off. If you prefer more traditional navigation, shut the touch pad off in the settings menu.

11. Set the "Hold" switch to pink to lock the buttons of your Zune so you don't accidentally press them when Zune bounces around in your pocket or bumps into an object.

12. Hit the back button to return to the last screen or press down to return to the home screen.

13. Press the touch pad to skip through songs (right side=forward, left side=backward). Hold down sides of the touch pad to fast forward or rewind.
