Trigger A Nikon N75 Using A Tv Remote

Use your universal remote to trigger your camera's shutter.

Many Nikon cameras, including the Nikon N75 35-mm SLR camera, allow the shutter and flash to be triggered using a remote control. The Nikon N75, released in 2003, uses the Nikon ML-L3 remote control, which costs between $15 and $40 in 2010. (Ref. 3, page 25) The ML-L3 remote is small and easy to lose. If you are afraid of misplacing your remote control while on a photo shoot or if you'd rather not invest in one, use one of your existing universal television remote controls instead.

Instructions

Scanning Remote

1. Turn on your Nikon 75. Set it to remote mode by pressing the camera's remote-control button several times. This button looks like a partial circle with a diagonal line slicing through it and a dot on top. (Reference 2, page 43)

2. Point the universal TV remote at the camera. Choose the device button you would like to use to control the camera, such as "TV" or "Cable/Sat." Press that button to select it. Follow the instructions in your remote control's user manual to scan the programming codes until your remote finds one that works with your camera.

3. Activate your camera's shutter by pressing buttons on the remote control once it has found a compatible programming code. Begin by pressing the "Power" button. If your camera does not take a photo, try other buttons on the remote, starting with the number buttons.

4. Repeat the scanning process to find a new programming code if no remote-control buttons trigger your camera.

Learning Remote

5. Gather your ML-L3 Nikon remote control, Nikon N75 camera and the universal remote control with learning capability.

6. Turn on your Nikon 75. Set it to remote mode by pressing the camera's remote-control button several times.

7. Follow the instructions in your remote control's user manual to begin learning the correct programming code. For most remotes, press and hold the device button (such as "TV") while pressing the "Learn" button. Release both keys, and all the lights should flash.

8. Press the universal remote-control button you want to teach, such as the number "1" button. This is the button you want to use to activate your camera shutter.

9. Point your Nikon ML-L3 remote at the bottom of your learning universal remote, and press and hold the ML-L3 button until the universal remote's device button blinks and stays on. Be sure your remotes are about 1 inch apart.

10. Repeat the learning process to find a new programming code if no remote-control buttons trigger your camera.
