If you have a commercial CD player and you notice CDs have begun skipping when you play them, it is most likely due to dirt and dust building up inside the player. Every time you open the CD tray up to insert a new disc you leave the tray susceptible to that outside dust and dirt entering the CD player. Since a motor that rotates CDs is located directly inside each tray, any debris that gets stuck inside can cause problems for the player, such as CDs skipping.
Instructions
1. Maintain a comfortable room temperature. Electronics do not function properly when the air is too cold, and a CD player can actually skip.
2. Inspect the bottom of the CDs you are playing. If the CDs are damaged or dirty, the CD player may skip. Clean of the CD with a damp, clean cloth and allow it to dry. It's best to use a denatured alcohol, glass cleaner or a specialty CD cleaning fluid to remove those hard to remove stains on the disc. Test the CD again to see if it plays correctly. If most of your CDs are skipping, the problem lies with the player.
3. Open up the CD tray and spray in a few squirts of compressed air. You can find compressed air at most computer and office supply stores. The compressed air should force out any dirt or dust sitting around the laser or lens of the player.
4. Insert a cleaner disk into the tray and close it. The CD cleaner has small bristles attached to the bottom. These bristles clean off the lens of the player. Press "Play" to start the cleaning process. Allow the cleaning disk to work a minute or so before ejecting it. You can purchase a cleaning CD at most electronic and office supply stores.
