Get Free Music For An Mp3 Player

If your iPod is short on playlists and you find that your library is severely lacking, you don't have to resort to illegal methods to fill up the empty space on your MP3 player. There are plenty of legal ways of getting music on your MP3 player so that you can rock out for free.

Instructions

1. Realize that you will be song hunting, not album hunting. Downloading full albums for free is virtually unheard of in this day and age because bands are looking to make money from their album purchases, and not necessarily from individual song downloads.

2. Find a legitimate website that offers free music. Download.com offers a large selection of music from people that you may have never heard of as well as some you have. You can download single songs from sites like this to help beef up your MP3 collection (see Resources below).

3. Search by genre. Use your favorite search engine and type in "Free MP3 Downloads" and the name of the genre of music you are looking for. Many sites are dedicated solely to promoting bands in a particular genre because they are new to the scene or are having a hard time getting noticed, which means more free music for you.

4. Go underground. Most "underground" and unsigned bands will offer their music for free because they want more people to listen to it. MTV and other major music sites will occasionally offer new music from unknown artists to download for free to test whether or not the market is large enough to promote a band.

5. Take advantage of promotions offering free MP3s, but beware. Anything that sounds too good to be true probably is, so that link offering 10,000 free downloads from iTunes is going to get you into trouble. However, freebies handed out at your local coffee shop or as a promotion at your local retailer are probably legitimate because they want your business.
