The GPS Image Tracker is an optional accessory that attaches to the Sony DCR SX41 camcorder. It is compatible with most Sony Handycam and Cyber-shot digital cameras. Its compact size and easy-to-use features make it a great choice for preserving memories from holiday gatherings, vacations or children's sporting events. The main feature of the GPS Image Tracker includes its ability to date a photo and then link it to a specific place and time in history.
Tracking
The global positioning system, or GPS, records the date, time and location of every shot. You can transfer the data to a personal computer with the USB cord that comes with the unit. Once transferred to your personal computer, the GPS Image Tracker synchronizes with Google Maps. The latitude and longitude of each photo appears on the map as stickpins. Simply click on each stickpin to see the photo that was taken at that specific location.
Software
This camera GPS unit comes equipped with the Image Tracker software and the Picture Motion Browser software. The Image Tracker software dates each photo, while the Picture Motion Browser allows you to view the shots on the GPS screen or on a personal computer. This GPS software is compatible with Microsoft Windows 2000, Home Edition XP, Professional XP and Vista. Sony recommends a computer with a processor speed of at least 500 MHz for optimal viewing.
Memory
The GPS also features a built-in memory chip that holds up to 128 MB of memory for safekeeping of your photos until you transfer them to your personal computer. Memory card slots created for the Sony Memory Stick Duo and SD cards provide another way to effortlessly share and transfer the GPS data and photos with others.
Power
A Nickel-Metal Hydride or an AA alkaline battery powers the Sony GPS Image Tracker. When using the alkaline style of batteries, the GPS unit can run for approximately 15 hours; the Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries can power the unit for about 14 hours.
