Use a Nextel Phone


Nextel cell phones from Sprint offer a walkie-talkie feature called "Direct Connect" (DC) that allows you to connect with other DC users for free. Setting up and using the DC feature is easy and can be done in just a few simple steps.


Instructions New Contact. Enter the new contact's name and phone number. Select Number > Type of Number > Direct Connect > Save.


3. Make a DC call with your Sprint Nextel phone by entering the DC number of the user you are trying to reach and pressing the "Direct Connect" button. Direct Connect number are dialed differently than regular numbers, you must press the "Star" key wherever a dash would appear in the written number. For example, you would dial "123*456*7890." You can also make a DC call by selecting Contacts > History. Scroll through the list of DC numbers until the one you want to connect to is highlighted. Press the "Direct Connect" button to place the call. Another way to make a DC call is to push the "Direct Connect" button to view your recent DC calls. Scroll through the list until the number you want to reach is highlighted, and then press the "Direct Connect" button a second time to place the call.


4. Initiate a call using the DC feature on your Sprint Nextel phone. After making the DC call as described in Step 3, press and release the "Direct Connect" button to initiate the call and wait for a reply. To speak, hold the "Direct Connect" button while talking. To listen, release the "Direct Connect" button. When you are ready to end the call, press the "End" button on your Nextel phone.


5. Send a Call Alert to another DC user when you are unable to reach them. Choose a contact from the contact list or enter the user's DC number manually. Press Alert > Direct Connect to send. A repeating alert will be sent to the user, letting him know you are trying to reach him.
