Homemade Mini Speakers

Mini-speakers are compact and convenient. They are perfect for use with your portable game system, laptop or personal audio device. You can enjoy and share your favorite music while on the go. You can purchase mini-speakers at any electronics store. However, instead of spending hard earned money to purchase mini-speakers, you can make your own with a few playing cards, standard headphones and some empty metal lozenge box such as Altoid's breath mints.

Instructions

1. Take apart a pair of stereo headphones. Make sure to use headphones that go over your ears, not the ones that go inside them. Carefully separate the speakers from the headband using a pair of pliers.

2. Put a playing card face down on a flat surface. Place your headphone speakers face down on top of the playing card. Trace an outline of the speakers with a pen or pencil.

3. Poke some holes through the playing card. Poke some holes through the speaker outline you traced on the playing card using a needle. Holes through the card improve the quality of the sound by allowing the sound waves to pass through.

4. Attach the speakers to the playing card. Cut double-sided adhesive tape and stick it on the headphones. Make sure the speakers line up with the outline you made on the playing card.

5. Create a hole in the back of the tin cans using a large nail. Lay the back of a tin can on a flat surface. Hammer the nail into the lower part of the tin can. Make sure there are no sharp jagged edges sticking in or out of the can. Use a nail file to remove such edges. Throw away any metal shards that fall into the tin can while creating the hole. Repeat this step for the other tin can.

6. Cut the playing card to fit inside the tin can. Thread the headphone wire through the hole in the metal can. As you carefully pull the headphone wire through, push the playing card and the speaker into the tin can. Repeat this step for the other tin can. Plug your new speakers into your audio device.
