Assemble A Dish

You need to have a properly assembled dish to pick up satellite programming. The signal will not be found, if the dish is put together incorrectly. The procedure you need to follow is detailed in the steps provided. You are required to have a satellite dish, a 7/16 Wrench (or adjustable one), a screwdriver, a few other supplies and about ten minutes. It is very important to also have the correct settings needed for your location. The information on settings can be found online or in your accompanying satellite receiver guidelines.

Instructions

1. Verify you have the parts and accessories needed. Check to make sure you have all of the satellite dish parts. This includes: a reflector (also called dish or antenna), LNB, LNB support arm, mast and all screws, nuts and bolts required to connect the various parts together. All of these should be included with the satellite dish.

2. Connect the dish to the LNB support arm. Align the holes on the dish with the ones on the arm. Use the provided bolts to secure them together. Some satellites use self-locking nuts and others have locking washers (star washers) and nuts. Do not over tighten the bolts.

3. Find your required dish elevation. This setting will vary according to the satellite service provider and your location. If you are installing a Dish Network satellite system, use the link provided (see Resources) to get your correct settings according to your zip code. A DirecTV receiver will supply this information in the on-screen menu system. Follow the directions accompanying your receiver to access them. Make note of the coordinates.

4. Set the correct elevation needed for your satellite dish. This is located on the backside of the dish. Utilize a 7/16 wrench to loosen the nuts on the elevation indicator. Move the elevation setting to the precise degree needed. Tighten the bolts. Some of the Dish Network dishes will also require the skew to be set. You can adjust the skew setting in the same manner as the elevation is done. Secure the dish to the mast provided. You may have to loosen the clamp on the mast to do this.

5. Connect the LNB and cable to the dish. Use the connector compression tool to attach the needed connector(s) to the cable. Thread the cable through the support arm and attach it to the LNB. Pull the LNB into the support arm and line up the holes. Use a screwdriver to screw the bolt into the support arm. Some may also have a nut that you must connect to the bolt. Tighten all bolts securely to complete the assembly of the dish.
