Keep your analog videos for a lifetime by digitizing them. Recording analog video to your computer saves a digital copy of the analog video that won't corrode and degrade in quality like video tapes, and can be reproduced as many times as you want. Find out how you can back up your analog videos to your computer's hard drive.
Instructions
1. Connect a composite video cable between your analog video source and your computer. Connect one end of the composite cable to the yellow "Video Out" port on the back of the analog video source and connect the other end of the cable to the composite video port on your computer's capture card.
2. Download a copy of VideoLan's VLC player (see Resources). Install the program, and then open the program once the installation process is complete.
3. Click on the "File" heading, located in the top left corner of VLC player, and then click on the heading labeled "Open Capture Device."
4. Navigate to the heading labeled "Advanced Options," and then click in the box labeled "Stream/Save." Click the "Settings" button to continue.
5. Fill in the box labeled "File," and then click on "Browse" under the option labeled "Outputs." Use the explorer window to browse for a location to save your digital copy of your analog video. Press "Record" on VLC player and "Play" on your analog device.
