Remove A Pontiac G6 Stock Stereo

The stock stereo in a Pontiac G6 is a basic CD changer and radio module. It's located in the center of the dash and to the right of the steering wheel. Every year, various manufacturers create many new aftermarket options to improve the factory unit. For example, instead of a standard radio/CD changer, you may want to opt for an MP3 compatible stereo, or you may wish to have a fully integrated navigation system with satellite radio compatibility. Whatever you choose, you'll first need to remove the stock stereo in your Pontiac G6.

Instructions

1. Remove the two end panels on the dash. These are the panels that are located on either end of the dashboard. Place a rag over the tip of a flat tip screwdriver and wedge the tip behind the panel. Then pry the end panel off the dash. Do this for both panels.

2. Remove the nine screws holding the glove box in place. Remove the two screws under the side panel on the passenger side (removed in step 1), four inside the glove box, two under the glove box, and one in the bottom left corner of the glove box (you can only access it after removing all of the other screws and extending the glove box down beyond what is normally allowed with the other screws in).

3. Remove the screws holding the dash on under the steering wheel. Remove the two under the panel on the driver's side panel (removed in step 1), three on the underside of the dash, one on either side of the steering column, and one near the bezel covering the stereo.

4. Pull the dash off from around the stereo controls.

5. Remove the clip and wiring for the hazard switch using a flat tip screwdriver.

6. Remove the six screws holding the HVAC unit and stereo unit in place and pull the stereo straight out of the dash.

7. Unplug the electrical connection from the back of the stereo.
