Copy 8 Mm Film

Copy 8 mm to to video

A popular format for home movies, 8 mm film dominated the market for decades until the convenience and low cost of video made it obsolete. With so many 8 mm home movies having been created, the desire to transfer them to more manageable formats has grown throughout the years. While professional transfer services are available, costs tend to be high. For a cheaper option, you can copy 8 mm film to a variety of formats at home.

Instructions

1. Clear a space on a flat, sturdy surface and set up your 8 mm projector.

2. Set up your projection screen in front of the projector. If you do not have a proper projections screen, a clean white wall or large surface butcher paper will suffice.

3. Turn on the projector and line the projection with the screen surface.

4. Set up your tripod beside the projector and mount your camera upon it. While you can use any camera from film to video, the miniDV format is most desirable because of its low cost and high quality.

5. Load the recording format into your camera and align its frame with the projection on the screen.

6. Load your 8 mm film onto your projector.

7. Start the recording process on your video camera.

8. Run the 8 mm film projection. Let the film play through entirely before stopping it.

9. Stop the camera recording and view your footage to be certain the recording took place.
