Banding tools are usually needed when you have to secure many items onto a pallet for shipping. Strapping a band around the items will help to make sure they stay in place. For some items it is not important to have it tight, but for many things like bricks, wood and steel, the banding needs to be very tight. In these instances it is important to have the right tools for the job.
Strapping Tool Cart
Strapping tool carts have a tray to hold your tools for easy access. It also has an attachment on the front that holds the coil of plastic or metal strapping. The cart is mounted on two wheels and the cart is tipped while being pulled by the handle for easier maneuverability. The cart is lined up with what you want to band so that you can pull the strapping off the coil easily.
Strapping Tensioner
Once you have the strapping wrapped around the items and pulled snug it's time to get it a little tighter. The tensioner is slipped over the strapping. The cut end is bent around the front of the tensioner and the uncut end of the strapping is placed into the top section of the tensioner. Pumping a handle pulls the strapping through the device, taking up the slack.
Crimper
When the strapping is tight you need to place a strap seal over the strapping. It looks like a staple that is 3-inches wide. A crimper, which looks like a long pair of pliers, is put over the strap seal. The part that goes over the strap seal looks like a little clamp. When you push the two handles of the crimper together it pinches the seal tightly in place on the band, holding it firmly in place.
Strapping Cutters
The last thing you need to do is cut the strapping from the coil. To do that you need to use strapping cutters. Strapping cutters are designed especially for metal strapping. A lot of pressure is needed to cut strapping. Strapping cutters have long handle that give you the leverage needed for the cut. One of the blades is also flat and wide, fitting under the strapping to stop the strapping from twisting.
