Connect a Canon AV Cable to a PC Capture Card
A PC capture card is a device used to record and capture the contents of a video camera. Although you can install these internally, it is easier to connect the card to your computer via USB cable. The capture card is especially important if you have a Cannon camera that doesn't have USB or Firewire connections but does have an AV port.
Instructions
1. Connect the PC capture card if it is not currently hooked up to your computer. Use the USB cable running from the back of the device and plug it into an available USB port on the computer. Once it's in place, insert the driver installation disk and follow the prompts to complete the driver installation. The prompts consist of asking where the driver should be installed. Leave this as the default setting, or the computer may not know where to find the driver when it is needed.
2. Connect the AV cable to the Cannon AV port. The cable has a single 3.5 millimeter jack that plugs into the camera. The other end of the cable has three RCA connectors on it.
3. Insert the RCA ends of the AV cable into the PC capture card. Make sure the RCA cables are connected to the port of the same color on the card.
4. Power on the Canon camera and set it to VCR. You can now launch whatever video editing software you have on the computer and import the video contents.
