Things To Do With Laser Pointers

A laser pointer is a small device that shines a distinct spot of light onto the surface of an aimed-at point. It is usually small enough to fit on a key chain. Sometimes a laser pointer has the same design as a pen. It must be used cautiously, because direct contact with eyes could result in major damage to the retinas.

Lectures and Group Presentations

In group presentations, laser pointers are commonly used by professors or managers to highlight important words or objects that appear on a board or projection screen. As opposed to a long stick pointer or yard stick, a laser draws the audience's eyes to whatever it is highlighting. The red laser is the most effective color for keeping people's attention during lectures and group presentations.

Pet Toys

Animals' eyes are also attracted to the bright red dot of a laser pointer. Cats especially enjoy the thrill of pouncing on the dot. The laser pointer is safer than a string or thread because it does not contain anything that an animal can choke on. As long as the animal doesn't get frustrated when it discovers that it cannot actually catch the dot, it will be a fun game for you and your pet.

Pranks

One of the best ways to annoy a friend is to shine a laser pointer on his clothes. The friend will try to bat it away at first, until he realizes that it's a prank. If it's a pen-style laser pointer, you could trick a friend who thinks he's about to write something but instead gets a red dot of light on his pad of paper.

There are also laser pointers specifically designed for pranks. These have two buttons, one for the laser and another that will give the holder a little electric shock. If an unsuspecting friend uses the wrong button, you can gleefully laugh at her slight misfortune.
