Test A Capacitor With A Fluke 123 Scope

The Fluke 123 is a handheld meter that is a combination multimeter and oscilloscope. In addition to a dual-input 20 MHz digital oscilloscope, the Fluke 123 has a built-in multimeter that tests resistance, voltage and amperage. The multimeter also has a built-in continuity tester and is capable of testing capacitors. Capacitors are electronic components that can hold a small charge and that block direct current (voltage) while allowing alternating current to pass through a circuit.

Instructions

1. Turn the Fluke 123 power button to the "On" position.

2. Tap the "Input A" menu button. Scroll through using the "Up" and "Down" arrow keys. Select "Capacitance" by pressing the blue "Function" key when you scroll onto it.

3. Use the "Up," "Down," "Left and "Right" arrow buttons to select the capacitance range. For example, if you are going to measure a 3-uF capacitor, select the 5-uF range by pressing the blue "Function" key.

4. Hold the meter test leads to the capacitor leads and read the display screen to obtain the capacitance for the capacitor that was tested.
