Use A Laptop As An External Dvd Drive

Since a great number of laptops come with a DVD drive that plays DVD movies, it is possible to connect laptops to televisions in order to view the DVD movies. As long as you have the right equipment, the process for connecting a laptop to a television is simple.

Instructions

1. Connect your HDMI or S-Video cable to the HDMI or S-Video port on your laptop.

2. Connect the HDMI or S-Video cable to the corresponding input port on the back of your television.

3. Connect the headphone end of the headphone-to-RCA adapter cable to the headphone jack on your laptop. Connect the RCA (red and white) ends of the cable to the RCA input ports next to your S-Video connection. If you are using an HDMI cable, you do not need to perform this step.

4. Use your laptop's display properties window (which should appear when you connect your laptop to the television) to calibrate the resolution on your television.

5. Turn your television on. Press the "Video" or "Input" button on your television to switch between your television's input stations. Stop once you see your laptop's visual signal.

6. Place a DVD in your laptop in order to begin watching the DVD movie on your television.
