While T-Mobile providers let subscribers purchase ring tones for their cellular devices, including the Sidekick, many customers prefer to bypass the fees and import their own. It's as simple as converting the song with a media player, and uploading it to the phone via e-mail.
Instructions
1. Select the song on the computer, and right-click on it in the media player, such as RealPlayer or Windows Media Player. Choose "Get Info" in the pop-up menu, then select the "Options" tab.
2. Decide on a 30-second clip of the song, and change the start and end times within the "Options" menu. Click "OK."
3. Select "Edit" and "Preferences" within the drop-down menu on the media player, and click on "Import Settings." Select "Import as AAC" to import the song in Advanced Audio Coding format, which is compatible with Sidekick cell phones. Click "OK," and a copy of the clip will be made next to the original in the library.
4. Open the e-mail program, and upload the song from the computer as an attachment. Address the e-mail to the cell phone and send it. Include the phone's 10-digit number and the domain, as shown in this example: 5551234567@alltel.message.net.
5. Open the phone message, upload the attached song, and assign it as a ring tone.
