Hook Up An Equalizer To A Stereo

An equalizer adjusts sound levels from a stereo across a range of frequencies.

An equalizer is an audio component that connects to a stereo for adjusting sound levels across a range of frequencies. Slide controls across the front panel of most equalizers make it possible to fine-tune different audio frequencies to suit different styles of music and individual taste. Two standard stereo cables are needed to hook up the equalizer to the stereo with color-coded connector plugs, using the stereo tape monitor jacks to loop the signal from the stereo through the equalizer and back to the stereo.

Instructions

1. Connect the first set of stereo cables from the left and right line-in jacks on the rear of the equalizer to the REC OUT jacks labeled for Tape 2 (a second set of tape deck jacks) on the back of the stereo. The white cable plug connects to the left audio channel and red inserts in the right channel.

2. Hook up the plugs on the second set of stereo cables from the left and right Line OUT jacks on the equalizer to the Line IN (playback) jacks labeled for the Tape 2 connections on the back of the stereo.

3. Press the "Tape 2 Monitor" button on the stereo control panel to activate the circuit and use the equalizer to adjust audio frequencies. Press the button a second time to deactivate and bypass the connection to the equalizer.
