Connect An Audio Mixer To A Computer

Produce professional sounding media with an audio mixer and computer.

An audio mixer is an electronic device used to combine, route and change the levels and dynamics of audio signals and sound. Even if you're on a budget, you can produce professional-sounding audio in your home using an audio mixer and your computer. If you're in a band and you're recording into your computer, plugging the instruments into a mixer and cleaning up the sound before it gets to your sound card can make a big difference.

Instructions

1. Plug the two RCA male connectors of the 1/8-inch-to-twin phono cable into the outputs on your audio mixer. The outputs, like the male connectors, are usually red and white.

2. Plug the other end of the 1/8-inch cable, which resembles a small headphone jack, to the input of your sound card, the microphone input.

3. Use the software of your choice to begin recording. All vocals, instruments and other audio will now go through your audio mixer--where you can mix, balance and clean up the sound--before being recorded.
