Pick Memory Cards For Digital Cameras

Use the correct memory card

Digital cameras use a memory card to record the still images to. Although most memory card function in the exact same way, different brands of cameras use different memory cards. Most brands of cameras use either an SD memory card or a microSD card (just a smaller version of SD) while Sony cameras use its own brand of memory cards. When purchasing memory cards, you need to make sure you are getting the correct format for your specific camera.

Instructions

1. Look in your camera's user manual to find the correct kind of memory card listed. This typically can be found within the first few pages of the manual.

2. Go to a local electronics store. These stores carry a wide selection of memory cards. You can also find these portable storage devices at stores such as Walmart and Target.

3. Identify the type of memory card that matches the description from your user manual, either SD card, microSD or Sony.

4. Look at the sizes of the memory cards. Each memory card has specific storage space, ranging anywhere from a few hundred megabytes to several gigabytes. The larger the storage space, the more pictures the card can hold and the more expensive it is. If you are planning on going on a long trip and don't want to constantly change out memory cards, it may be in your best interest to purchase a memory card with more space.
