Occasionally, your Pentax SLR camera might fail to turn on or you may encounter other issues, such as the shutter failing to release or problems with the autofocus feature. These and other common issues typically can be fixed with basic troubleshooting. A few adjustments and a little tweaking of the settings goes a long way in helping you stay camera-ready.
Instructions
1. Confirm that the batteries are fully charged and installed correctly. Match the "+" and "-" battery polarity to the symbols in the battery compartment. Replace the batteries or use the AC adapter temporarily if the battery power is low. When the batteries are depleted, the battery-level indicator will blink and turn off the camera.
2. Set the aperture value if the shutter doesn't release, and if the lens you are using has an aperture ring. Turn the mode dial to "P" for Program mode. Press the auto-lock button and at the same time, set the aperture to the "A" position.
3. Wait until the flash has finished charging or the recording has finished if the shutter still does not release. Then, press the "Playback" button. Press the trashcan icon twice. Press the directional "Up Arrow" button and select "Delete All" or turn the e-dial left to select a single image. Press the "OK" button to confirm the deletion. Alternatively, insert a new SD memory card with additional space.
4. Step back so that you can fit the subject into the focusing area if the autofocus feature doesn't work. Focus the subject in the center of the viewfinder and then press the shutter release button halfway to lock in the focus. Press the button down all the way to take the picture.
5. Set the Focus mode switch to "AF" for autofocus instead of "MF" for manual focus if the autofocus still doesn't work. Press the "Menu" button. Use the directional arrow buttons to make your selections. Select "AF Mode" and then select "AF.S Mode."
6. Turn the mode selector dial to any Capture mode setting other than "Moving Object" if the autofocus still doesn't work.
7. Turn the mode selector dial to any setting other than "M" for Manual and "B" for Bulb if the AE lock function doesn't work.
8. Turn the mode selector dial to any setting other than "Flash Off" if the flash doesn't discharge.
9. Select another transfer mode if the USB printer connection doesn't work. Press the "Menu" button and select "Transfer Mode." Select "PicBridge" amd press "OK.
