As prepaid wireless companies become more popular, the list of phones that can be converted from other networks grows. This allows customers to switch from networks that require contracts to those with no contract and keep the phone they have grown accustomed to using. This tutorial will show you flash a Palm Treo Pro to Cricket Wireless.
Instructions
1. Retrieve the phone's SPC code. Call Sprint to get this code, and if it will not provide you with the code, download BAF MSL Grabber. (See Resources.) After downloading the file to your computer, transfer it to your phone. Alternatively, use your phone's Web browser to download it straight to the phone. Locate the file on your phone, usually in the "Programs" folder, and run it. Click "Get SPC/MSL" to get your phone's SPC. Write it down for later.
2. Open the computer's Device Manager to determine the port through which the phone is connected to your computer. For Windows 7 and Vista computers, this can be achieved by navigating to "Start," "Control Panel," "System Maintenance" and "Device Manager." On Windows XP, navigate to "Start," "Control Panel," "System," "System Properties," and select the "Hardware" tab to see the Device Manager.
3. Open QPST Configuration, available for download in the Resources section. Look for your phone in the Ports tab, and if it is not visible, manually add it by clicking on "Add New Port" and selecting the port through which it is connected to the computer.
4. Go to the Start Clients menu at the top of the screen in QPST Configuration and click "Service Programming." Click "OK" on the prompt that appears, and under "Select Base Model," make sure the system has selected one beginning with SURF as your phone model.
5. Click the "Read from Phone" button and add your SPC in the pop-up box. Wait for the status bar to finish loading, and change the six-digit codes that appear in the Service Programming and One-Time Subsidy Lock fields to 000000. Click the Roam tab, select "Browse" under the Preferred Roaming heading, find the cricket.PRL file, and click the "Write to Phone" button. Wait for the status bar to finish loading, and your phone is flashed.
6. Perform a battery pull by removing the battery, then replacing it. Wait for the phone to reboot and perform a test call to 611. Listen for a recording to mention Cricket customer service.
