Replacing the stereo on the 2003 Mitsubishi Galant is simpler due to the fact that, unlike many cars, you do not need to use a dash adapter to make an after-market stereo fit in the dashboard. Most after-market stereos fit perfectly in the factory stereo space.
Instructions
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from your battery. Loosen the retaining nut on the black cable with a pair of pliers, and slide the cable off the battery terminal.
2. Use your fingers to pry off the trim panel surrounding the radio and climate controls. Start on the top and work your way around the panel, pulling the panel loose from its plastic retaining clips. Once the panel is free, remove it and set it aside.
3. Remove the four Phillips screws holding the climate control module in place. Slide the climate control module out of the dashboard and disconnect the cables from the back of the module. Set the module aside.
4. Remove the two Phillips screws, located behind the climate control module, holding the radio in place. Slide the radio out of the dashboard and disconnect the antenna cable and wiring harness from the back of the radio.
5. Slide your new stereo into the cage included with it. Keep in mind, all after-market stereos have slightly different installation instructions, so refer to your stereo's owner's manual for specific installation instructions.
6. Connect the antenna cable and wiring harness to the back of your new stereo. Slide the stereo and cage into the dashboard and screw it in place.
7. Reconnect the cables to the climate control module. Slide it back into the dashboard and replace the screws. Replace the trim panel and reconnect your battery.
