When purchasing a mini-DV camcorder, it is important to think about how you will connect the camera to the computer. If you need a camera for professional use, however, you will need a camera with either 3CCD and/or HD capabilities. Most cameras use 1CCD, which is a chip, to collect all the color information the lens records, while a 3CCD camera uses three chips (one for blue, one for green, and the other for red), which will guarantee a picture that looks closer in color range to the original object. These cameras will also be more expensive and can cost at least a thousand dollars.
2. Go to a local electronics store such as Best Buy, Target or any other store which carries mini-DV cameras.
3. For simple uses, look through the cameras that are in the three-hundred dollar range. They will be adequate for what you need to do and should have a USB connector cable port.
If you are looking for the more professional cameras, make sure the camera says 3CCD and/or HD on the side of the lens or elsewhere on the camera body.
4. Pick out the camera that fits your budget and still has all the functions you want. Next to the lens or back by the hand grip there should be a small USB port (sometimes covered by a plastic cap). If you cannot seem to find it, ask a store associate who should be able to point out where on the camera the USB port is located.
