Fix a jumpy mouse by cleaning it.
Working with a computer that has a jumpy Logitech mouse is not only frustrating, but also time consuming. When the mouse pointer won't respond or opens up unwanted windows unintentionally, it affects your productivity. Unless you're in dire need of a mouse upgrade, there are some easy steps you can take to fix the mouse.

Troubleshooting an Optical Mouse
1. Turn off the computer and unplug the mouse.
2. Turn the mouse upside down and identify the optical lens on the bottom. This is usually a small hole in the bottom of the mouse.
3. Blow gently on the lens opening to dislodge any build up of dirt, dust or debris. Anything that is blocking the mouse's optical sensor can cause a jumpy mouse.
4. Clean the optical lens using rubbing alcohol on the tip of a cotton swab.
5. Clean the surface of the mouse pad to make sure it does not have a sticky or dirty buildup. Also, make sure that the image on the mouse pad is neutral in color and pattern. Bright and colorful designs on a mouse pad look pretty, but sometimes strong contrasts in color can cause issues with certain optical mice that result in a jumpy mouse.
6. Plug the mouse back into your computer once cleaning is complete.
Troubleshooting a Ball Mouse
7. Turn off the computer and unplug the mouse.
8. Turn the mouse upside down and identify the rubber ball. It will be surrounded by a plastic, circular cover.
9. Remove the circular cover by twisting it with your fingers. Often, the cover has arrows that demonstrate which direction you need to twist.
10. Remove the ball from the bottom of the mouse and identify the three rollers inside of the mouse.
11. Clean the rollers using your fingernail or rubbing alcohol on the tip of a cotton swab.
12. Replace the ball and the circular cover on the bottom of the mouse.
13. Clean the surface of the mouse pad to make sure it does not have a sticky or dirty buildup.
14. Plug the mouse back into the computer once cleaning is complete.
