If your home theater system isn't calibrated, you may have issues with sound. It will be less enjoyable to watch movies, sporting events and other programming. Calibrating your home theater system is very important and in many cases, calibrating your system can be fairly simple. Follow these steps to find out how.
Instructions
1. Keep the manual handy. Your instincts may tell you that you can calibrate your system without using the owner's manual. You'll find that you'll be able to hook up your system more effectively and efficiently if you keep your manual close by as a reference.
2. Calibrate your TV to obtain an optimum picture. You'll want to adjust the color settings of your TV by using a calibration disk or setting it yourself. You can purchase a calibration disk that will help you with calibration at an electronics store, or online at "Hype Audio" and at Amazon (see Resources below).
3. Turn off "Auto Settings" on the TV. Reset the TV to the "standard neutral" setting to make your adjustments. It's best to choose a color setting with cooler colors. Using warmer color will give everything a red tint. Cooler colors will cause more of a blue tint but make the TV look more vibrant. Adjust the contrast, tint and sharpness to your liking.
4. Adjust the audio portion of your home theater system. Set your receiver to small speakers if you want to use your subwoofer for the primary base or set your receiver for large speaker to use other speakers for the bass sound. Adjust the volume of the surround sound speakers according the distance they are from the viewer. Increase speaker volume if the speaker is further away from you.
5. Push the "Test Tone" button on the receiver and listen to the surround sound speakers. Adjust the speaker volume appropriately according to their position. Put in a DVD and make sure the picture and sound are to your liking.
