Fax machines scan documents and transmitting them, by phone line, to another fax machine, where the document is then printed. They can also receive documents from other fax machines and also print them. The connection required is a simple analog phone extension and can be connected easily. It is important to test the fax machine, once connected, to ensure it is able to transmit and receive faxes properly and that a phone connected to the fax machine can also be used to receive incoming and place outgoing calls.
Instructions
1. Disconnect the phone jack for the phone extension from the back of the telephone.
2. Plug the jack into the fax machine in the port labeled 'LINE IN'.
3. Plug another phone cable into the fax machine in the port labeled "LINE OUT", "EXTENSION" or "PHONE". Plug the other jack on the cable into the phone.
4. Pick up and listen to the handset on the phone to ensure there is a dial tone on the phone. Test the phone by placing an outgoing call. Test the phone again by placing a call to the extension line phone number from a different phone. When the extension phone rings, pick it up to ensure it is receiving the call.
5. Send a fax to the newly installed fax machine from another fax machine to test the connection and ensure it is receiving properly. Send a fax from the newly installed machine to another fax machine to ensure it is transmitting properly.
