By plugging the iTrip Mini into the top of your iPod Mini, you can play music through your radio, without any wires or adapters. It broadcasts your iPod Mini at an FM frequency of your choosing that will correspond to the frequency you set on your radio. It operates with a built-in antenna.
Instructions
1. Insert the installation CD into the CD drive on your computer. Install the software. This process will vary slightly depending on whether you are using a PC or Mac. The installation will copy a playlist to your iTunes library called "iTrip Stations." Plug your iPod Mini into your computer and either sync your libraries automatically or manually drag the "iTrip Stations" playlist onto your iPod.
2. Unmount the iPod from your desktop and unplug it from your computer. Plug the iTrip Mini into the top of your iPod Mini. Turn on any working radio and change the frequency to 87.9 FM. This is the default frequency at which the iTrip device broadcasts. You can double-check this by selecting the "iTrip Stations" playlist on your iPod and making sure that 87.9 is highlighted. If it is not, then select it just like you would a song on a playlist and "Play" it. Keep your iPod within 30 feet of your radio to ensure that the signal is able to reach it.
3. Select any song or audio file from your iPod menu and play it. The sound should immediately be audible from your radio. Often, the audio can be distorted at first. This requires some volume adjustment between the iPod and the radio. If you do hear distortion, try lowering the volume on your iPod and compensating by raising the volume on your radio. Do not lower your volume on your iPod below 50 percent, though, or else the iTrip will turn itself off.
4. Try broadcasting on different frequencies. Change the radio to 101.5 FM, for example. Then go to your "iTrip Stations" playlist and select 101.5 FM. Continue playing audio from your iPod and it should still be audible through your radio. Depending on your location, some frequencies might even work slightly better than others.
5. Keep in mind that the iTrip Mini does not use separate power. It will reduce the battery life on your iPod by about 30 percent.
