Take Good Pictures With The Canon Sx10 Camera

The Canon SX10 is a mid level digital camera, offering a 20 megapixel sensor in a large, SLR type body. The fixed lens has a large zoom range of 20X, meaning subjects can be magnified up to 20 times from the widest setting without using lower quality digital zoom technology.

The Canon SX10 has full manual capability, meaning users have full control over all aspects of the camera, giving them greater control and flexibility to choose the right settings for the right situation, which -- with practice -- results in higher quality images.

Instructions

Reducing blur

1. Use a tripod to reduce camera shake, which is the reason why images are blurry even when focus settings are correct. A sturdy tripod will enhance a wide array of photos by reducing the movement of the camera that results from both hand holding the camera and from the vibrations caused by pressing the shutter button.

2. Use manual controls to select the widest aperture available in low light situations. The aperture refers to the variable opening in the lens through which light passes. The SX10 has a wide aperture measuring f2.8, which means it can cast more light on the sensor. Because of this increased light the shutter speed can be shorter, which results in crisper, less blurry images in low light situations.

3. Use a higher ISO setting on the camera to increase the sensitivity of the sensor. Because of this increased sensitivity, the shutter speeds can be faster, resulting in images which are less blurry and more crisp.

4. Use the camera flash to illuminate subjects. This will result in less blurry pictures but will be lit from the front, often causing subjects to become less defined or too bright in relation to their surroundings.

Make images cleaner

5. Use the lowest possible ISO setting to reduce the amount of "noise" in an image. Noise refers to the digital graininess of an image caused by the increased electrical signals used to make the sensor more sensitive to light. Lower ISO settings result in images with less noise, which makes for a cleaner image.

6. Avoid touching the glass elements on the front of the lens. Any finger prints or other foreign substances will cause images to become blurry or out of focus. If there are any signs of dirt or fingerprints, use the manufacturer's specified lens cleaning systems to remove the dirt or fingerprints.

7. Use the highest quality images settings. From your menu, select the icon with the "L" next to it. This indicates "Large" images. Once you have selected this, select the image that looks like a smooth quarter circle. This indicates "Super Fine" images, which are the highest quality images the SX10 can record. Higher levels of detail result in clearer images with more definition and crispness.

Capture fast-moving subjects

8. Use fast shutter settings to capture fleeting moments in fast-moving situations, such as sports events, wildlife photography or when photographing children. A fast shutter will only capture a small amount of time, freezing fast-moving subjects will little to no blurriness.

9. Use the continuous shooting function to capture more images of the same motion. The continuous shooting function will take multiple images when you press the shutter button, resulting in the camera capturing more than one image of the same action. This will enable a user to review the images and pick the best shot afterward.

10. Move the camera to follow the subject. For instance, if a subject is running from left to right, try moving the camera from left to right to follow him or her. This will make it easier to decide when to take a picture, as the subject will always be visible on your LCD screen or viewfinder.
