Equalizers allow sound from other audio components to be manipulated before it comes out of your speakers.
An equalizer is an electronic device that changes the sound of the output from your CD player, receiver, or record player. By manipulating the level of the different frequencies of the music being played, an equalizer allows you to fine-tune your listening experience. For example, if the bass line in a song is too soft to be heard, turning up the "Bass" frequency on the equalizer will help it stand out. Learn install an equalizer on your home stereo and get the most out of your music.
Instructions
1. Set the equalizer where you want it, whether this be on top of or underneath your CD player or receiver, or next to them. Be sure it is in close enough proximity to the other components of your stereo system that your cables will reach.
2. Determine what type of cables you will need to install the equalizer. Most modern equalizers have RCA-style inputs and outputs, in which case you should purchase stereo RCA cables. Some older equalizers however use open-wire style speaker clamps, in which case plain stereo speaker wire should be used.
3. Disconnect the audio cables from your speakers if they are currently connected to the receiver output. Connect the end of these cables to the input jacks of the equalizer. Be sure the left channel is connected to the left input and the right channel is connected to the right input.
4. Connect a stereo audio cable to the left and right output jacks of the equalizer. Connect the other end of these cables to your speakers. Again, be sure that the left and right cables are connected to the left and right speakers correctly.
5. Plug the power cord of the equalizer into a grounded wall outlet or surge protector. Turn on the power of the equalizer, receiver, CD player or turntable, and speakers. Play a song and experiment with the frequency adjustment knobs on the front of the equalizer until your music sounds just the way you like it.
