My GE Side-By-Side Refrigerator Won't Stay Cold
There are several possible reasons why your General Electric side-by-side refrigerator will not stay cool, including problems with the power supply, mistakes in refrigerator setup and incorrect use of the fridge. You can follow some simple troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the problem for yourself without calling for professional repair. This approach can save you time and money by preventing unnecessary repair visits. Troubleshooting your GE refrigerator will take about 10 minutes.
Instructions
1. Push the power cable firmly into an active three-prong grounded outlet. Confirm that the outlet is switched on, if your home outlets have on/off switches.
2. Plug a small lamp into the outlet to test the power supply, if your GE side-by-side refrigerator still won't cool. Check your home's fuses or breakers if the lamp does not light. Replace any fuses or reset any tripped breakers and test the outlet again.
3. Verify that the temperature-control dial is not set to "Off." The temperature-control dial can accidentally be rotated when loading the fridge. Confirm it is pointed to a cool enough setting for your food and allow 24 hours for the change to take effect.
4. Move any food, bottles or jars preventing the door from closing tightly and allowing cool air to escape. Confirm that the door is able to tightly close.
5. Check the door gasket on your GE side-by-side refrigerator for signs of damage or corrosion. The fridge will warm up if the door seals do not make good contact with the refrigerator or air is allowed to escape through holes. Ensure your gaskets make a tight seal when the door is closed.
6. Move your refrigerator if air is not able to circulate around the edges and back, which is required for it to work properly. The appliance may be warmer than expected if it is located next to an oven or dryer.
7. Limit the number of times you open the door to keep the contents as cool as possible. Never hold the door of your GE side-by-side refrigerator open or refrigerate hot or warm food. Always allow food to cool to room temperature before storing.
8. Contact General Electric if problems persist with your refrigerator. You may be entitled to free service if your appliance is within its warranty period. See Resources for contact information.
