Attach A Mirror To A Bike Helmet

Some cyclists like to use small rearview mirrors that they attach to the sides of their helmets. It serves much the same function as a mirror on a car, allowing the bicyclist to look behind him for oncoming traffic without having to turn his head or take his eyes off the road in front of him. Most bike mirrors can be attached to helmets very easily.

Instructions

1. Examine your bike helmet for the place you want to attach the mirror. This should be somewhere the mirror can be clamped or glued, either to the left or the right of your eye. Double check the helmet against the mirror to make sure they are compatible.

2. Determine which side of the road traffic moves on. Generally speaking, bicyclists should move on the same side of the road as the traffic they are moving with: the right side in places like the United States and Canada, and the left side in places like Great Britain. Your mirror needs to go on the side of the helmet that best allows you to view the road behind you: the left side of the helmet if you drive on the right or the right side of the helmet if you drive on the left.

3. Decide whether you wish to use a clamp or glue to attach your mirror. Glue can be used to place a mirror anywhere on your helmet, though it is often less secure than a clamp. You can attach a clamp more sturdily, but it needs to fit in the right location on the helmet. Also, some mirrors cannot be unclamped once you attach them. If you want to use one mirror with more than one helmet, use a clamp and make sure you can detach it and reattach it as you will.

4. Clamp the mirror into position and tighten it into place if it uses a clamp. Make sure the clamp is firm and will not wobble or become detached while you are riding.

5. Apply glue to the mirror and attach it into the proper place on the helmet if it requires glue. Wait for the glue to dry and check to make sure that it is firmly in place and will not wobble or fall off.

6. Put the helmet on and position the mirror's stalk until you can see behind you through the mirror.
