Wire Up An Ac Amp Meter

An AC amp meter, also known as an ammeter, measures the electrical output of devices that run on alternating current. The meter face is equipped with a needle or digital readout to display electrical measurements. It also has control knobs to change the setting being measured. AC amp meters connect to an electrical device by using a pair of leads. One lead connects to positive and one negative. The leads are are typically equipped with alligator clips to connect to the circuit you wish to test.

Instructions

1. Switch off the power to the amp meter and the device you wish to connect it to.

2. Slide the setting switch on the amp meter to "AC current." Some meters let you switch between DC and AC current for testing.

3. Adjust the meter for the measurement you wish to make, such as the output in amperes, milliamperes or microamperes.

4. Press the clip open on the amp meter's red wire lead and attach to the positive terminal of your device. Connect the clip on the amp meter's black wire to the negative terminal.

5. Switch on the power to the device you are testing and to the AC amp meter to measure the output, which will appear on the meter's readout display.
