Recycle Sony Camera Batteries

Your camera battery is made of recyclable materials.

Recycling uncommon materials can seem challenging and even stressful to some people. Most recycling centers will accept common materials, such as glass, plastic, paper and cardboard. However, if you need to recycle something like the battery from your Sony camera, then you have a little more work ahead of you than just driving to your regular recycling center. Luckily, Sony makes this task a little easier with their Take Back Recycling Program.

Instructions

1. Find out what type of material your Sony camera battery is made of. In general, non-rechargeable camera batteries are made of lithium and rechargeable camera batteries are made of nickel-cadmium. Your camera most likely has rechargeable batteries.

2. Take your Sony camera battery to a Sony Style store near you. You can find the nearest Sony Style store using the store locator on the Sony website. At the store, you'll find a Sony GreenFill Recycle Drop Box in which you can deposit your battery.

3. Take your Sony camera battery to a retail location that is participating in the Sony Take Back Recycling program if you do not have a Sony Style store near you. You can find GreenFill program participants using the service center locator on the Sony website. Participating store locations will have a Sony GreenFill Recycle Drop Box.

4. Contact your local recycling center if you cannot find a Sony GreenFill Recycle Drop Box. Your local recycling center may be able to recycle your camera battery. Be sure to mention what material your battery is made from when asking if it's accepted and let the recycling service worker know the material when you drop off your battery.
