Install Pressure Connectors On A Coax Cable

Coax cable typically connects to television sets and similar devices. It uses two leads to conduct the signals to the device. The first lead is a solid copper core in the center of the cable and the second lead is a braided copper mesh. An inner sheath insulates the copper core from the copper mesh and an outer sheath covers the copper braiding. Installing connectors on the end of a coax cable generally involves applying pressure around the connector to crimp it to the cable.

Instructions

1. Cut the end of the coax cable at a 90-degree angle to the cable with the cable stripper. Remove the last 1/2 inch of the outer sheath from the cable without cutting the copper braiding.

2. Strip the last 1/4 inch of the inner sheath and copper braiding with the cable stripper without damaging the inner copper wire. This will expose 1/4 inch of the inner copper core. Trim the end of the copper core at a 45-degree angle to maximize the contact between the core and the outlet on the television device.

3. Pull the exposed copper braiding on the end of the coax cable back so that it lies on top of the outer sheath. Squeeze the braiding along the outer sheath to remove the slack.

4. Hold the cable in one hand and the connector in the other hand so that the connector's inner side faces the cable. Place the end of the inner copper into the hole through the center of the connector.

5. Push the cable onto the connector as far as possible so that the end of the inner sheath touches the inner face of the connector. This requires you to twist the connector back and forth to get it over the copper braiding.

6. Place the coax cable connector into the matching socket on the cable crimper. Close the handles of the cable crimper with firm pressure to crimp the connector around the cable. Pull the connector away from the cable to ensure it does not slip off the cable.
