Connect A Dtv Converter To An Analog Tv Tuner

As of June 12, 2009, all full-powered stations switched to broadcasting digital signals. For the consumer, this means your old analog TV set is virtually worthless without a digital converter box. To help with the conversion to digital broadcasting, the government issued coupons at sites like dtv2009.gov. These coupons help consumers offset the cost of getting a digital converter box. The typical cost of a digital converter box may range from $40 to $60 per box.

Instructions

1. Unplug the power to your TV and digital converter box. Make sure that the cable going from your TV to your indoor antenna is disconnected.

2. Using one coaxial cable wire, connect your antenna to the back of your digital converter box. Depending on your digital converter box, it'll say "antenna in" or "from antenna."

3. Connect your TV to your digital converter box using the second coaxial cable wire. On the back of your digital box, your TV should be connected to the port on the back of your digital converter box that says "to TV." In some cases, you may be able to use RCA cables instead of coaxial cables to connect your digital converter box to your TV. This can only be done if both your TV and digital converter box have the appropriate white, yellow, and red ports to support RCA cables.

4. Plug in the power cord to your TV and digital converter box. Turn your TV on to channel 3 or 4. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen to set up your digital converter box. Begin scanning for digital broadcast signals using the remote to your digital converter box.
