How Convert My Big Screen Tv To Hdtv

Watch HD programming on the HD television.

When using a big screen, high-definition television you are going to receive standard definition signals unless you convert the television to an HD connection. This requires you updating your cable/satellite receiver and purchasing an HD Blu-ray player. Once you have updated your hardware it is possible to convert the big screen television to display high definition programming.

Instructions

1. Contact your cable/satellite provider and upgrade your service to HD. In 2010, this usually cost around $10 extra a month. If you use a satellite provider, you need to set up a date when a service technician can stop by and install a new satellite dish.

2. Plug the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the HD hardware. The HDMI cable provides both audio and video signals in high definition.

3. Attach the free end of the HDMI cable into one of the HDMI ports on your big screen TV.

4. Power on the HD hardware and the high-definition big screen television. Select the "Input" option on the remote control and choose "HDMI." The HD content appears on the television screen.

5. Press the "Menu" button on the HD cable/satellite receiver's remote control. Select "Options," then choose the "Aspect Ratio" feature. Once this menu appears on the screen choose the aspect ratio that correlates with your television (either 720 or 1080). Press "OK" and the television adjust to show the best quality video possible.
