If you want to upgrade the speaker system in your car or truck but have limited space available, a speaker box may be just what you need. A speaker box can hold an additional pair of speakers that will boost the sound output of your system. Building your speaker box with a port will improve the efficiency and bass response of the speakers.
Instructions
1. Cut the top, bottom, front and back panels of your speaker box. Using your circular saw, cut the pieces to the following dimensions:
Top: 16 by 6 inches
Bottom: 16 by 6 inches
Back: 16 by 8 inches
Front: 16 by 8 inches
2. Use your pair of 6 1/2-inch speakers as a template to trace the size of the opening you'll need for the two speakers on the front panel. Then cut the openings, using your drill and jigsaw.
3. Cut an opening for your port tube (see Resources) in the top panel.
4. Drill a hole in the back panel large enough for two pieces of speaker wire to slide through.
5. Assemble the four panels you've cut. Secure the pieces together with wood screws.
6. Cut two end panels for the box. The dimensions of each will be 10 1/4 inches by 17 1/4 inches.
7. Attach the end panels to the box with wood screws.
8. Cut your port tube to a length of 4 inches and slide it into the opening.
9. Slide two pieces of speaker wire in through the opening in the back of the box, and attach them, one to each speaker.
10. Mount the speakers into the box, using wood screws.
