Backup Your Evo 4g Before Flashing

Back up your HTC EVO 4G's data to your computer with HTC Sync.

The HTC EVO 4G is a smartphone that runs on the Android mobile operating system, and can be flashed with a third-party program to allow the use of unsupported applications and provide more freedom in device customization. Prior to flashing your EVO it is crucial to back up your device with HTC Sync, the synchronization program for the EVO that backs up your data from the phone to the computer. The backed up information is restorable in case the ROM causes the phone to crash, as the backup remains on the computer through HTC Sync.

Instructions

1. Download the HTC Sync program from the HTC website (see Resources) and double-click the downloaded program file to install it on your hard drive.

2. Insert the device cable into the HTC EVO's charger port on the bottom of the phone. Plug the other end of the device cable into the computer's USB port.

3. Select "Connect to PC" in the pop-up window located in the bottom-right corner of your desktop. The pop-up window indicates that the computer detects the phone, and automatically runs the HTC Sync program.

4. Create a name for the HTC phone in the Device Setup window, and click "Save."

5. Click "Next" in the Device Setup window and click the check box next to the type of data you wish to include in the backup process.

6. Select "Next" to start the device backup process, and unplug the device cable from the phone once the backup is finished.
