Use a USB Cable on a Nextel Phone
Phones have come a long way in capabilities and uses. Most phones can now take pictures, video, use Bluetooth wireless headsets, listen to music and even browse the Internet. With everything phones can now do, often getting files, music and pictures back and forth from the phone to your computer becomes an option you would like to do to back up your files and share them with others. The USB cord is one of the easiest ways to back up this information and make file transferring simple.
Instructions
1. Turn on the phone. Plug the USB cord into the phone (this is normally the same place the charger is plugged into).
2. Plug the USB cord into the computer in the USB port.
3. Look for the pop-up message: "Found New Hardware" (this will be in the lower right corner). Most computers with XP or newer platforms will auto detect the plug-in and give a light ding and pop-up message.
4. Install the data disc for the phone if the computer did not find it automatically. To install it, just place the CD into the CD drive. When the message pops up on your computer to install, click "Run," then the next screen will have an installation message to install the program. Click "I agree to terms and conditions," and then click "Next." It will then install and allow you to click "Finish" when it has loaded.
5. Open the drive that has the phone. If it was auto detected, go to the folder that says "My Computer," and open it to locate the phone. If it was installed, open the application that was installed by double clicking the application on your desktop, or select it from "Start."
6. Open the folder on your phone's drive, and find the documents you would like to transfer. These can be pictures, music, video or phone contacts.
7. Press and hold "Control" (Ctrl) while you click the multiple files you would like to copy.
8. Right click your mouse, and select "Copy" once all files have been highlighted.
9. Go back to the "My Computer" folder, and open the folder on your computer's hard drive to which you would like to back up your information. Most commonly, the "My Documents" folder is used.
10. Make a new folder inside the "My Documents" folder by clicking "File," then "New Folder." Rename the folder (for example: backup cell phone files).
11. Double click the new folder you just created.
12. Right click your mouse and select "Paste." This will then transfer the files you copied from your phone and place them in the new folder you created on your computer.
13. Transfer files from your computer to your phone the same way, but in the opposite order. Select the files off your computer, choose "Copy," then open the folder on your phone and select "Paste."
