The Nikon D80 is a 10.75 megapixel digital camera designed for the intermediate-to-advanced photographer. Featuring interchangeable lenses, optical viewfinder and a 2.5 inch LCD display, the D80 is capable of capturing images at a maximum resolution of 3872 x 2592. The Nikon D80 also features a special power-management system that allows you to capture up to 2,700 images before requiring a recharge. Although the D80 features a number of user-definable settings, the beginner can set these to "Auto" and let the camera do most of the work.
Instructions
Operating Your Camera
1. Remove the rear cap from the detachable camera lens. Remove the camera body cap from the front of the camera. Mount the camera lens on the camera body and turn it counterclockwise until it locks into place.
2. Open the battery bay door located on the underside of your camera. Insert your camera's rechargeable battery into the battery bay. Close the battery bay door. Locate the memory card slot cover on the side of the camera. Open the cover and insert your memory card. Close the cover.
3. Remove the front cap from the camera lens. Locate the power switch on top of the camera; turn the power switch to the "On" position. Locate the mode dial on top of the camera; set the mode dial to "Auto." Locate the focus-mode selector next to the camera lens and set it to AF (this will set the camera to use its autofocus capabilities when you take your picture).
4. Grip the camera with your right hand and support the weight of the lens with your left. Tuck your elbows tightly to your body to provide additional support and lift the camera to your face; look through the viewfinder. Place one leg a half-step forward to improve stability.
5. Frame your subject as desired and apply light pressure to the shutter button. Wait for the beep and press the shutter button all the way down to take your photograph. Continue taking pictures, as desired, or until you run out of space on the memory card. Turn off the camera.
6. Connect the camera to your computer using the packaged USB cable. Locate the camera in your file browser (it will be listed in the same place as your hard drive). Transfer the files from your camera to your computer. Modify, print and/or transmit your photos as desired.
