Comparing prices is always a good idea, especially in today's economy. The trick today is not to be swayed by the cable companies' introductory prices, but to find out what you'll be paying after the first year of service.

Comparing Prices
1. Visit Connect My Cable, a website that does comparison shopping for you. Type in your address, and it will give you a list of cable and satellite options for your exact area, not just Hemet. This is helpful because some companies are in one part of a city, or even a small town, but not in other parts.
2. Compare the most appealing service packages by selecting the boxes next the appropriate packages (on the right hand of the screen) and clicking "Compare Offers." Your choices will include Dish Network and DirecTV and may include Comcast, Time Warner and AT&T U-verse.
3. Find out what the service package will cost after the first year by clicking on the "Packages" section for each company. A window with more details, including the later monthly cost, will pop up. There are packages that include all the movie channels, DVRs, HDTV and several tiers of channels.
4. Multiply the rates. Multiply the first and second yearly rates for each company (12 x intro rate + 12 x rate) to find out which one has the best price.
