Hook Up A Dvr Recorder

Digital Video Recorders are a godsend for today's multitasking but TV-loving families. These devices plug into your cable or digital satellite feed and allow you to record hundreds of hours of programming, to be played back at your convenience. Although the technology inside a DVR box is complex, connecting these sophisticated machines into your entertainment system is a straightforward process.

Instructions

1. Install the DVR in its intended place inside your entertainment cabinet, making sure you have adequate ventilation to protect the machine from excess heat buildup. Plug in the power to the device but leave it turned off.

2. Connect the coaxial cable from your cable box's VIDEO OUT or RF OUT port to the VIDEO IN or RF IN port of the DVR. If you do not use a cable box, then connect the coaxial cable directly to the cable jack in the wall.

3. Run the component video ports from the VIDEO OUT port of the DVR into a free VIDEO IN port of your television set. The TV may have multiple VIDEO IN ports available; choose any free one. Component video cables are color-coded, so match each color (e.g., run the blue-tipped cable from the blue-tipped OUT port to the blue-tipped IN port).

4. Connect the AUDIO OUT port of the DVR to the AUDIO IN port on the TV. Select the closest input jacks to the incoming component video cables, and connect red-to-red and white-to-white.

5. Turn on the TV and DVR and verify that the TV is receiving a signal from the DVR. It may take some time for the DVR to recognize your cable setup and populate the appropriate channel schedules.
