Eliminate Outside Tv Antenna Interference

Using an antenna is one way millions of Americans receive television broadcasts, local news and other important information. Interference can come in many forms and can hamper your enjoyment of your television. There are a few simple and quick steps you can follow to remove outside interference with your TV antenna.

Instructions

Snow, snow go away

1. Check for trees. Trees continually grow (except in winter) and their branches can either touch your antenna or interfere with your signal in other ways. Trim these back with pruning shears, hedge clippers or other appropriate cutting tools.

2. Check for telephone wires. Telephone, cable or electric wires all generate an electromagnetic field that can interfere with your TV antenna. Consider moving your antenna to a place where it will be away from these wires to improve reception.

3. Look for birds. Birds nesting or even perching on antennas can interfere with TV signals. Though they can be "shooed" away for temporary relief, if it is a persistent problem, you may consider moving your antenna or purchasing a device to drive birds away (there are several types available at hardware stores and garden nurseries).

4. Know what the weather is like. If you live in a particularly windy area, or a place that gets lots of rain or snow, you may want to be sure your antenna is securely fastened to a very solid object (such as a brick chimney) to prevent the antenna from being shaken or moved about by the weather.
