Save A File From A Jvc Camcorder

When you pull out your JVC camcorder, oftentimes it is to record a major life event that you want to keep forever. Keeping the original tapes, however, takes up a lot of storage space. Videotapes also degrade over time and wear out after multiple viewings. If you have footage on a JVC camcorder that you want to keep in a more secure format, you can transfer the video to a computer and save it as a digital video file.

Instructions

1. Load the video into the JVC camcorder. Plug the camcorder into the computer using an i-link cord, also called a firewire. This cord does not come standard with a JVC camcorder, but can be purchased at electronics stores. Once connected, turn the camera on in "VCR" mode.

2. Launch any standard video-editing program that you have installed on your computer. Video-editing programs, such as iMovie and Windows Movie Maker, have the ability to capture video from a JVC camcorder.

3. Open the capture feature in the video-editing program. In iMovie, the capture feature is displayed by flipping the blue switch at the bottom left of the screen to the left toward the "DV" icon. In Movie Maker, go to the "File" menu and click "Import From Digital Video Camera."

4. Begin a new project in iMovie by going to the "File" menu and choosing "New Project." Enter a project name when prompted. In Windows Movie Maker, enter a name for the captured video when prompted in the "Import" window.

5. Click "Import" in iMovie or "Start Capture" in Movie Maker to begin capturing and press play on the JVC camcorder to begin playing the video. Stop the capture by clicking the "Import" button again in iMovie or the "Stop Capture" button in Movie Maker. Press "Finish" in Movie Maker to complete the import process. The captured JVC camcorder video is saved to the computer's hard drive with the video or project name that you selected.
