Connect A Dvd Recorder To A Satellite Tv

If you just got a new DVD recorder and are looking to hook it up to your satellite TV system, chances are you are looking to record satellite TV shows directly to DVD. To accomplish this, you need to connect the device so it receives the satellite TV signal and then passes it along to the TV set. If the recorder has a tuner, you also need to make sure it's carrying the right channel. Without this, you will have little more than a fancy, more expensive DVD player.

Instructions

1. Observe the connections in back of the satellite receiver box and the DVD recorder. You need to find an output port on the satellite receiver and an input port on the recorder that will match up. They may possibly have RF coaxial cables, but RCA or composite cables are most likely.

2. Check for matching ports with the recorder and the TV set. Here, you need to link up the TV with the DVD recorder's output. The RCA connection is even more likely here.

3. Connect the satellite box's output to the DVD recorder's input and the DVD's output to the TV using the appropriate cables. RF coaxial cables are the thick, black cables with the twist-screw ends. RCA cables have the three-pronged plugs colored yellow, white and red. Composite cables have three prongs colored green, blue and red.

4. Plug in the DVD recorder's power cord. If you aren't already using one, you may need a multi-socket surge protector to accommodate all the electrical plugs you are using.

5. Tune the DVD recorder to the TV channel the satellite signal is on, if the recorder has a tuner. This will likely be either Channel 3 or an auxiliary video channel the TV set has.

6. Turn on the TV and satellite receiver and make sure your satellite broadcast comes through. Check it again with the DVD recorder's power on. Insert a DVD into the recorder and play it to make sure the DVD comes on properly.
